The Cathedral car park was cheaper to park in the last time we visited Galway.

We stayed at the docks and had a quiet night, it was 4 euro for the night 7pm until 8am, and we managed to park up at the Hospital in carpark number 3, it was empty when we got there at 8-15am so we had no trouble parking up. Its not that expensive at the hospital and the maximum they can charge a day is 9 euro ..... or you can get a 24 hour pass for 10 euro, and even a week permit is 30 euro and you are allowed to leave and re-enter 7 times in the week.
I would imagine that facility would be for if you were needing treatment or visiting a sick relation/friend. hope this helps someone having to visit UHG on an early appointment.

Fiona Monaghan is the person with overall responsibility for the WAW, which includes Galway City.
As the person who developed the idea she should be well placed to request County Councils along the route to provide appropriate overnight parking places (Aires) along its route.
She appears to need some convincing that such facilities are actually needed herself though O-)

Her email is fiona.monaghan@failteireland.ie
Her desk is 091537775 and mobile is 0868253307

Just sent her a wee email. Every little helps.

I hope to visit Galway within the month, and while I'll cheerfully see all it has to offer, my hands will remain firmly in my pocket. A word to local traders won't go amiss either.

In case we ever visit again and decide to give Galway a last chance could someone post a google streetview of exactly which area in the dock is the motorhome parking.
We had a look around there whilst passing through last month and couldn't see anywhere that looked suitable for motorhome parking.

It's along HERE, see the ehu bollard. However the bollards are now out of commission as there was no planning permission for them and Galway City Council insisted the service be withdrawn.

Unlike Cobh there are no motorhome sized bays specifically marked out or specific motorhome parking signs, so you just have to park as best you can within the car sized bays.

I looked here but it didn't look suitable.

https://www.google.ie/maps/@53…6656?hl=en

I didn't even think about the roadside parking further on.

I'll bet they wouldn't have been told they needed planning permission for the EHU bollards if they were for boats or electric car charging.

In the UK street furniture like that is generally permitted development anyway and doesn't need consent - it's why our footpaths are so clogged up with obstructions.

Hi all

first time on forum heading out to Galway tomorrow Wednesday bit confused to parking.

Is it okay to park on dock street overnight if you pay parking fee ?

Have tried to call ahead to one of the sites at Salthill for the past three days and the phone goes straight though to answer phone so suggests the site is closed.

So if I cant pull up at the docks will have to think of by passing Galway and going further up the cost.

Regards

Trevor

The camp site in Salthill is quite a bit from Salthill about 6k and a lot further from Galway,it is quite expensive so i believe.
If its Galway you want you would be a lot better off staying in the docks at night and moving to one of the car parks on the Headford Rd during the day.
Not a lot in Salthill this time of the year. All the action is in and around Quay St just around the corner from the docks.
You don't have your location on your profile,if you are from the east coast expect a lot more rain then you are use to  I know there are very high tides at the moment and all that area around the docks and Quay St are expecting to flood.

Parked at Galway Docks in September, no problems. No more EHU, but who needs that?

Free at night after 6pm and had to pay from 7am IIRC.

I don't think you can pay for parking there for the day at one time, you'd keep having to go back every 2 hours to to up the meter. If you want to park up for the day, the carpark at the back of the cathedral is probably a better option as it does full day parking for €4. You'd want to get there early to get one of the spaces that the motorhome will fit into. They are all car size spaces. but at the cathedral end, there is room for the back of the motorhome to overhang onto cobblestones if its not too big

There is a certain time in life when the cogs and gears start to slip .Copious application of Guinness or some other foreign libation often help to coat the worn parts .( there are some spoil sports that say they are the cause of the slippage ) :D :D

Hi sprinter
Are you saying that the electricity bollards at the docks in galway are now available to use? (although at a cost).

I thought the planning row between the harbour company and galway co co,when resolved, did not allow those bollards to be used.

Did you purchase, or enquire how much the token was?
Thanks

The Harbour company funded the bollards, not the local council,

Fork the bollards are not in use,
The bollards were covered in black plastic wrap (see top pic that Sprinter put on) and you will see the remains of the tape,

In fairness, it is misleading now and one would hope that the harbour company would cover them properly or remove them if there are no plans to use them in the future,

( What a waste of public funds and an example of political mismanagement.)
It was my first time there and you can imagine what I taught" Great "only to be told be another regular user of the site that they are not likely to be in the future .some are covered up some the plastic has been blown off.
Both the Docks/Council are a disgrace for wasting funds.

I don't think it is the Docks fault, AFAIK they were forced to withdraw the ehu service by the Corporation

Hi lads,

Looking to stay in or around Galway in MH in the next few days, is there parking overnight still available near the quays / docks area?

Any idea where I could find information on price or facilities if they have any?

Cheers.

Yes the docks are still an option. I can't remember parking rates. We parked up on a Saturday night a couple of months back so only needed to prepay about €4 to cover the following morning.
