Colin McCarthy, Honorary Secretary of Phoenix Motorhome Club of Ireland, has raised concerns about the policy with officials at City Hall and elected representatives.

I've been watching the progress of this issue from the start, but felt helpless because I really couldn't think of anything worthwhile to contribute. But following on from a previous post, I would suggest joining forces with other like minded bodies. Since I am a newbie, I've no baggage. What went on in the past belongs there. This is today, so we must use this opportunity to join together to resolve mutually detrimental issues. We don't have to jump into the proverbial bed with people. Just agree we need a United front and now is the perfect time. I would propose someone with previous history in like matters to raise the mantle.

Good to listen to someone who has a clue and can put people right.

I am always amazed how little these councils know about the needs of Motorhome owners. They either all seem to think we want campsite facilities or perhaps some campsite owners are telling them that for their own reasons.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. I'm beginning to think if politicians had brains they would be dangerous. It beats me why we elect them.

A lot of the time we don't, it's voter empathy by not voting that some get elected, as there is usually a turn out of less than 50% in most elections. To me that means that more than half the voting population of that area don't think any of the names on the list are worth voting for rather than whoever gets the most votes from those who do think they are worth voting for.

If you know what I mean!

Excellent radio interview and a big thanks to the station for carrying the piece. Maybe we should E-mail the station to thank them and if we could do it in numbers it will show the depth of feeling in the motorhome community and also maybe an E-mail from the forum as well. What do you think Ally?

Just e mailed the programme and also sent request to Galway Harbour Company requesting that they apply for retention and expansion of the parking facilities for campers.

Time to keep the pressure on to get same action. Especially from the shortsighted Galway City Council..

How many craic members have we here Ally??

How many e mails sent????

This issue and many more similar cases around the country should be escalated, emails should be sent to Bord Failte and other motorhome clubs around Europe informing people how welcome Motorhomes are in our country!!

I have received a response from the forward thinking councillor Pearce Flannery who has assured me that he already has submitted the motion for consideration at the next meeting on Nov. 3rd.

I have received a response from Galway County Council where I explained that this decision may be detrimental to the entire counties tourism as many motorhomes plan to boycott or would not be interested in visiting the county if the can't visit its main city.
I expressed that there is anger amongst motorhomers across the Internet including here and boads.ie
They have forwarded the email to their Environmental department which deals with this remit.

I have also received an email from the general enquiries email at Galway City Council to inform me that my email has been forwarded to their planning department.

I have emailed Galway City COuncil to find out what the Galway Harbour Company are up to. I notice some signs on lamp posts saying they had applied for planning permission to retain parking in the area. I saw these earlier this year and they were from a while ago. So the first thing is to find out if GHC have planning permission. Then if that planning permission allows them to stop MH staying overnight. And if that is the case I think if people who write to GCC and Glaway Chamber of Commerce (http://www.galwaychamber.com/) maybe something might happen. That's where I'm starting from anyway.

Great stuff. Would it be possible for you to list the various E-mail addresses so we can all utilise them. If we keep this momentum up we could get a result in this case.
