Plenty of snow around Letterkenny this morning.

And Mt. Errigal has a bit more snow on it.

The road by Errigal was a bit hairy in a RWD automatic car

I know you lads up the north west have had some bad condition's but it looks like its out turn next week,
SO GET THE WATER DRAINED TODAY YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Ireland is heading for its coldest snap since the snows of December 2010 brought the country to a halt.

The weather system nicknamed as the “beast from the east” is heading our way, bringing with it freezing temperatures and the likelihood of heavy snow.

Cold air from northern Russia is set to descend over the whole of northern Europe next week.

The weekend will be chilly but not out of kilter with the weather so far during February, which has been unseasonably cold.

Temperatures will start to plummet from Sunday night and fall by an average of a degree a day.

By Wednesday next, day-time temperatures in Dublin will hover around freezing.

From reading up on this weather system, is seem that the eastern side of Ireland will suffer more than our western friends.
As sprinter has said drain your water but also plug in your ehu. Your leisure batteries are probably at a low charge if your MH has been sitting idle for a few weeks. Charge them up full. A battery with a low level of charge and is exposed to cold temperatures will lose efficency and in worse case example, may not work again.

If your are considering to put a heater into the MH over the next few few days, here's a tip or two.
Park the MH in the direction of the wind, have the wind blowing at the rear bumper with the front bumper protected from the wind chill. This helps to protects the engine from the cold and because most of the ventilation in a MH is in the dash, it also protects the inside from the cold.
Also pull down the foil blinds and fit the cab blinds. These help to retain heat in the MH.

A little bit to add to Thorn, I got some aluminium foil ,like they use behind radiators sold in most DIY stores and cut them to the shape of the windows and I slide them up behind the pull down blinds. This gives a bit more thermal protection and you can roll them up into a small size for next year.

We had a very heavy snow fall on the commute into work this morning in Cork (little Island), but it's a lovely sunny day now.

About an inch or two of snow at the very most. Roads were grand.

If any of ye are interested in tracking the weather over the next couple of days, here's a good one that was just recommended to me.

Windy.com

It's saying we might get an accumulation of 27cm in our place by Friday morning... Lets see how accurate they are.

If you zoom right in, it also has topographic detail with road maps and cycling/walking trails. A handy little app...

Good question on whether or not to clear the roof. Presumably while it is powerly it is easy to remove- if you carefully climb atop-. Again not much point if it going to be as bad as every several hours from now. My concern is if it freeze and turns to ice will it effect the seams, and of course the weigh issue. My plan is to wait until the snow stops and then try to get as much as possible off with a plastic shovel any views??

A more important consideration should be it safe to remove the snow on the roof. Plenty of stories here about guys injuring themselves while polishing their van. Do you really what to climb up a ladder pitched on ice and snow?
My advice is to wait until a thaw sets in, because a few seams can be repaired in a day while a set of broken ribs take a couple of months to heal.

I read somewhere that if you intentionally set off on a journey without clearing snow or ice off your vehicle roof ,you can get 3 penalty points and a fine.

I don't know if that is true , or applies down here , but it should . I saw a car pull up at a school crossing yesterday , only then having to jam on when the whole countenance of the roof sliding down onto the windscreen and bonnet . he then had to get out and clean it off while holding up the whole road .

Hi Thorn123, yes I have to say I was aware of the injury potential. The way the wind has picked up it would be unwise at present.
Witzend, not use if using a hose would just turn it into ice.
Anyway the way things are really going it is a job for another day- hopefully a quick thaw.
Regards
Frank

A little over 6 inches in Laois on Wednesday, half of it thawed today, Thursday, now half ten at night and it is only just spitting a bit of snow. It probably only the winds blowing it of the roofs.
I just hope that met eireann have not shot themselves in the foot with the red warning, because no one will listen again to them.
For this weekend, the MH with a few mates was heading to Waterford city to watch a few matches on the telly in peace but the matches have been cancelled. I suppose that we may have to talk to each other instead .
