Been steady fall here in Portlaoise since about 6 am. It got to a depth of 3 inches before it started thawing at midday. There a good inch left now, where the kids haven't been.
If it freezes tonight, a mouse will break their backside in the morning with the ice.

20 miles northeast of Galway we had about 3 inches or so and powdery snow til near midday,
Temps still low so a freeze on that tonight will make for interesting conditions tomorrow morning

No snow yet just south of Letterkenny other than what fell friday night, but hasn’t rose much above freezing all day and looks likes it settling in for a tight frost tonight.

Myself and junior poped out for a couple of hours to see the Leinster game . Just home now and witnessed 2 people landing on their asses from the black ice on the footpaths. Take care all in the morning because the country will be like an ice rink .

A bit of bedtime reading. This site was a lot better but seemingly some of the roadside weather stations were destroyed because folks mistook them for fixed speed cameras.

No snow in Donegal either, but rain then freezing has left it lethal on the roads with sheet ice.
Schools closed and roads impassable, literally cannot drive on anything but N roads... even 4WD got it difficult this morning with run to town a mile away.

Has anyone ever been away and woken up to snow?
Would you go away in MH if snow was forecast? ....if you didn’t mind being stuck for few days longer
One of our first trips away in 2011 we went to Battlebridge, early December, the pub was really cosy and decorated for Christmas and roaring fire. I think at that time if you booked into camping area for 2 nights you got a free meal....maybe not now, and not sure they are open all year now.
It was very cold in the MH as the gas stopped working, even though gas hadn’t run out, shortly after we changed to Propane (?) as more efficient.
Isnt there something about Propane (red cylinder) (we have 11kg x2 cylinders) you can’t get in NI , or in France?

Been of an age where both of us work and our kids have a social life that would rival any politician, the need to return home would outweigh the bad weather forcast outside of school holidays.

The red propane cylinder are only available in the 26 counties. I had hear of folks changing one cylinder to a European refillable model. The euro model is used as backup here while the irish one in the backup in Europe. I think that one of the sponsors here stock the gas fittings for GB and euro systems.

R&N the answer is yes to both. We go skiing every year and pray for the snow. Last year was good for snow in the French Alps. It snowed heavily for a few days and we had to dig out every day to prevent the MH being covered. On the day we were leaving it took me about 2 hours to dig out around the MH and a path out. There was approximately 30cm of snow on the roof and trust me an 8m van x 30cm is a lot of snow. Had to use the snow chains to get out of the campsite. I usually leave any snow built up at the front as it helps block the cold air coming in just have to be careful that it doesn’t turn to ice. We always use propane throughout the year and for skiing carry 2 x13kg and 1x6kg. It still amazes me that when we get a skiff of snow here the country almost comes to a standstill and how on the Continent life just goes on.

There's heavy Hailstones here in Letterkenny now and ground is white again. I'd guess around an inch or so of hail is lying.

It has been snowing on and off all day.

I left Gweedore around lunchtime and the back of Errigal road (via Glenveagh) was still passable then. I'd say about 2 or 3 inches of snow had fallen in a few hours since the morning.

Ah sure the right side of the house is out

There was plenty of snow last night, but the rain clear most of it away overnight and this moring the roads were all clear again.

A few bits on the higher roads, but nothing to write home about.

Here is Mt. Errigal this morning, around 9:00am
