Amazing how a GVT body operates, totally faceless organisation of wannabe jumped up power hungry useless civil servants. The idiocy, the lack of common sense, the totally blameless department that passes you off to another DPT then to another then to another.

As my MLA said "they'll chase you around in circles until you give up, they are accountable to nobody" even if I won they wouldn't care, they get paid nonetheless. If they win, they get paid nonetheless, jumped up power hungry job worth's with no common sense "but the book says..."

25 MOT's in GB and no problems with the glass, ONE MOT in NI and a bunch of simpletons decided manufactured glass in a Motorhome since 1993, a Motorhome that has never been damaged in it's life, is now a safety concern. A tint that I, NOR ANY ONE ELSE, can even see, now I have the windows out I can see it, but it was of no adverse affect to driving, it didn't stop the view even in pitch black I could still see out of the mirrors through the glass. They tried to say they wouldn't know if the glass had been changed, the glass has "PILOTE and the DATE" printed on it!!

This is always what we are up against, pen pushing nobodies with nothing better to do than think their job is the most important in the world and get sucked into their bureaucratic way of life. No help whatsoever to people who just want to get by in life. They are a scourge of society and its time Boris Johnson made his promise of getting rid of 75% of the useless fecks came true.

In my next post I will detail the complete uselessness of how they have operated this whole nonsense, how inept, how a GVT DPT can run and they don't even know how it runs.

The latest communication accused me of not answering my phone, 02 tell me if I miss a call by SMS, they(he) even said they left me three messages, I wonder were they ringing the moon? Any sane person knows how phones basically work. No missed calls, no notifications from 02 and no messages arrived. After a debate were he mentioned he will now pass me to the policy DPT he hung up the phone, untrained, unwilling and unable to answer basic questions on vehicle conformity.

I suppose it is fair to assume that they are no longer on your Christmas card list Ally?😜
All joking aside, to hold a job where your eagerness and determination to find faults that will be someone else's expense to correct surely could not have much job satisfaction.
That test centre where you were treated shabbily is notorious for acting like arrogant rats and I also have been one of those victims .

It has to go back for retest for track rod end anyway?
Tell the tester to take his sunglasses off when performing the retest next time.
No way that tint is beyond the limit, even if you were standing outside the van looking through both side windows.

I thought about wearing sunglasses during the re-test.

The tint is there, I downloaded an app. The legislation is beyond stupid, and no common sense applied at all. Also as they are manufactured windows from new, I'm waiting on the law about that.

There is a question for you, if your fails because of a slight over tint on the side windows and therefore it is illegal to drive it. how can it possible be legal to drive with sunglasses on.????????????

https://www.infrastructure-ni….e-road.pdf Just a wee link with some information regarding the windows and their markings , there is a bit further on down about windows manufactured in France.

OK, it's Friday evening.

Am I reading this right.. At first all seems good that they are wrong, but because its French after 1989, they are indeed correct?

What I read into this Ally is that if you have a circle or rectangle with the "e" number in it then the original country of manufacture has approved it (page 5 of 8)

New regs can't be applied retrospectively, if that was the case there would be no such thing as vintage vehicles being allowed on the road.

When you take a vehicle back for a re test they can only test what it was failed for originally.

I think that just the NCT, and only if brought back within a time limit, else it’s a full test again.

Colin was only using 'vintage' as an example I think.

Classic was 15 and vintage was 25. Nowadays with cars lasting a lot longer I've no idea what age they class them.

Have you considered Contacting the last place it was tested in the UK and ask for an opinion based on the fact, it has passed ever other time. And what was actual figures when they last passed it.?

I doubt they were ever tested, anyone with half an ounce of wit would know there is absolutely nothing wrong with the windows and that they were manufactured.

Larne MOT Centre is well know for their complete lack of common sense and decency. As I typed earlier, a similar Pilote had the same issue and was passed in Scotland without even a glance at the windows. GB has the same legislation as NI but its never been an issue.

As far as I am concerned, Larne MOT are plain wrong, proving them to be so is proving difficult. But I'm far from being beat.

we should back Ally on this one - my instinct is to write to the mot authority and ask them to explain the decision.
It would not be the first time that they have had to admit to a mistake, in the meantime a letter to the mot body , asking for the technical requirements would be interesting?

Looking through the Drivers view of the road list, i'm assuming because your glass has a V above the circle the light transmission is indeed less than 70 % . So looks like you may have to look for alternative glass .

I disagree. A full test can be carried out at their discretion, I'm sure that's what I read.

If you’re vehicle fails you have 21 days to book a retest for 18 pounds and must be within 60 days of original failure till your retest, that’s what I see, so anyway, my camper van was up for mot just there now ,in Lisburn ,and passed easy he said thankfully such a good feeling ,he started asking about water tank’s and gas locker’s and stuff,he was just being curious he said, so I started asking about window tints and factory fit on a Motorhome that the new owners had nothing to do with, he said they fail anything below 65 % light ingress but the police may stop you for 75 %, different countries have different regs due to climate, he spent one day a week in his previous job at a car importer changing glass on near new cars because they didn’t meet uk guidelines, I asked him should he try a different centre,he says no all these machines are calibrated the same, was that the first mot in an n Ireland test centre by any chance,in the end he says change the glass for mot,

Or take it to GB and get it passed with the same legislation but more common sense.

Reflection in a-class windows is a dangerous thing, especially when you first drive one. Funnily I haven't noticed any in this a-class, probably because they are tinted. The tint doesn't affect at all any safety and may prevent reflection which is a safety issue. But it fails.

Beyond a joke.
