Speaking of 80MPG or approximately 80MPG. Around the turn of the century VW were working on an ultra efficient variant of the VW Lupo that was intended to be capable of travelling 100km on just 3l of diesel or about 94mpg in old money, they referred to it as the 3 liter Lupo.
There is huge levels of industrial espionage in the motor industry and a determination not to let a competitor get too far ahead so when Renault heard about a 3 liter Lupo, despite hearing nothing but the 3 liter Lupo bit, they moved very quickly to respond with a model of their own... the Clio V6 which was an absolutely insane race car with a 3 liter V6 engine mounted behind the front seats.

3 Liter Lupo

Clio V6

Without wishing to drift too far off topic, the underwear pic reminded me of an awkward moment from a few years ago.
I was about to drive to Cork city and my wife asked if I would call into Dunnes and collect a bra for her.
How will I know which one? Simple, she took a picture of the correct box onto my phone.
I managed to furtively make it to the underwear section in Dunnes, and found the rack of bras.
Out comes the phone, and I held it up to check which bra box matched the pic.
I was suddenly aware of someone stood beside me as I stood staring at ladies underwear with my phone pointed towards the display.
'Hello, how are you?' said my teenage daughter's best friend.........

Todays version of this would be a battery bank on his back,an electric lead which he would have to plug in for about 2 hours.
Technology has moved on .

When you signed on for your apprenticeship, you got the flat cap,and a brush, second year the apron, third year the Mallet, and you only qualified when you could grow a mustache, when you got experience, you got to wear the hard hat, and finally, the Boss, got to dispense with the apron and wear his Jacket too work.

Two local businessmen destroy a Japanese made car in 1988.

American car companies suffered in the 1980s as Japanese vehicles were cheaper and more reliable. Some major US car companies even had to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to avoid going under.

In response, American business owners large and small made a heavy "Buy American" push in the late 1980s as the quality of Japanese goods soared.

The massive effort from America of the Liberty Ships being made in 1941 for WWII. The Allies needed ships by the hundreds to replace huge losses. In all, 2,751 Liberties were built between 1941 and 1945, making them the largest class of ships built worldwide.
