We were there a few weeks ago, I'd a GB reg, they asked me to move then realised I was only turning. I then parked up, walked over and asked how they wanted us to park. After I wound them up a bit they were good craic and sorted us all out, 4 or 5 vans plus others. They even cracked a few jokes up the town. Julie had asked "would these two tickets cover me?" Up the town I asked him was he following us, he replied "he was waiting to see if they would cover her"

Reading between the lines, I'd say the detective was telling them not to be bothered about it, move on...if they can't find you, they can't collect the fines. It seems to work for...er...some travelling campervan owners?

They were blocking the footpath but the 2 tickets were a bit nasty , I'd say if one of the pair were in a wheelchair they'd be the first to complain

I only watched first 5 minutes of that. I couldn’t watch any more. If he stuck a camera I my face like that I’d be tempted to, we’ll you can guess. This is the same guy who argues with a shop assistant about why he chose not to follow a COVID-19 one way system for customers In a shop. Am I wrong?

Its only one side of the story but the video makes the traffic wardens look very unprofessional to say the least and does nothing to promote the town/ county of Donegal.
Let me say that I agree that the parking was wrong/ blocked the footpath and did deserve a ticket, had they not moved when/ if advised to do so.And to issue a 2nd ticket just paints the traffic wardens as money grabbing jobsworths. A PR disaster....for Donegal town ..as a previous poster said it should never have gotten so far out of hand..

It was bad enough the way that the traffic wardens acted but when the guards arrived that in my opinion left a lot to be desired.
Why could he not have been advised to move to another location? Ok that does not bring in revenue.
We will not always have to do staycations and memories like this will have influence .

Jason I have no wish to get into a slanging match with anyone but as a motorhomer who loves this location and was considering going there this weekend I now am having second thoughts.
I will pay my way no problem but believe this location not suitable for me now.

Its not.

Your Motorhome is too big. I had problems in ours, but we agreed with the attendants that I could park across 3 bays and pay for them.

Not sure there is ten bays in a row for yours 🤣

Seriously, they were fine (the attendants) but as far as a bit of shopping goes, I wouldn't want to stay any longer unless it was the weekend when it was free. 3xbays for 24 hours would add up.

Donegal town needs to sort Motorhome Parking, but having experienced the same wardens, they were doing their job and I think I would of ...... ..... Mr Troll as well.

I would have given him another ticket with the camera in the face carry-on.
Its people like him that give us a bad name as well, don't forget.
Yes Tourism is valuable to an area but it doesn't mean tourists should act the Bo**ocks either.
That parking showed scant regard for anyone who wanted to use the footpath, be they elderly, or disabled or even a stretcher if one was needed.
The footpath is just that , a footpath, not an overhang repository.
That video is just clickbait imo. I won't watch any more of that fool.

Why didn't he just park in one of the bigger bays in the first place that he said (several times) were available ?

They could have parked in the same little site that we parked in the owner even takes you into Donegal and picks you up again ,wonder if he’s been wild camping for almost a year where has he been filling up with water getting rid of his grey and black waste plus all the rubbish from there food and drink I’m sure they don’t eat out three times a bay every day ,in the defence of the wardens talk nice to them they’ll be nice to you ,one thing I did find strange why did they give him tickets but the Irish van was told to move without a ticket looking at the vid you can see the van beyond him would have been talking up as much of the footpath as his van🤔

They were parked incorrectly, that’s a given.... and deserved a ticket for it.
But the portrayal of the town, of the wardens and his insistence of being singled out because he had an ‘English’ van can only do the county and it’s welcome to visitors untold damage and their video already has 1000’s of views.
His one sided video is not a nice advertisement for Donegal Town nor the county for that matter.

It’s hard to say without seeing it from the wardens point of view Robert (assuming that is what actually happened). But I wonder how much his confrontational attitude had to do with it and their pointing of cameras as people do their jobs. But if he wants to play the race card, let him off.

I think he looks the bigger idiot to be honest Jon. He is confrontational, he is argumentative and they are pointing cameras, in people’s faces. He follows the wardens and whatever happens then is off camera. But he must have really got in their faces because they ended up calling the guards. He even continues to insist that a foot of footpath is passable. The detective and sargeant were completely reasonable and sound in my opinion. They have to respond to the call. They have every right to insist this guy identifies himself and they correctly determine he is a flight risk and advise him to pay the fine.

I take your point Jon, it could portray the county in a poor light. But what can you do, give in to all these idiots? The genie is out of the bottle with camera phones, TripAdvisor and all the rest.

As I said above, if he had of pointed that camera in my face....... <>

I agree with him being confrontational - I see it happen a lot on Faecebook, a MINORITY of English Motorhome owners come on and advise the Irish Motorhome owners how it should be done (or think they do) I usually ban those imbeciles. It is a VERY TINY minority of course.

"Treated Like Criminals" - FML

My reply to their video:

"Don't park over the footpath, simple. There was no room for a buggy or a wheelchair to get passed. Only an idiot parks over a footpath. The wardens in that car park allow you to park along as many bays as you need as long as you pay for those bays. When I was there with my "English" reg van they were very nice, your confrontational attitude wouldn't of helped the situation, I'm sure there is more to this story that whats on this video. Sensationalism for traffic to your youtube videos, fair play, it has worked. Now I'll do the same: forum/topic.php?t=22312 "

Let me start by saying Traffic wardens are employed to help fill Council coffers not to help control parking.
There should be a code of practice that if there is an occupant in the vehicle they should advise them to move or correct their parking. and if they don't, then ticket them fir every hour they stay.
But most of them hide and fill out the ticket, unless they can do it for show in front of the shops on main st. If it was a car in the same position would they have got a ticket,I don't think so. How many times have you seen cars with their tails ends overhanging the footpaths .
It should also be the responsibility of Council's to provide bump stops to avoid this happening, if they are going to install this type of parking bays.

You would have to consider has the policy changed and this is a backhanded way of of reducing the number of Motorhomes. Is Donegal town the new Galway? it would be a pity if it is.

I watched the video with a sense of amusement and realised that the combination of absolute arrogance and total stupidity can create the unnecessary situation that happened in Donegal. I would give full marks to the traffic warden for his handling of the situation, if I were in his position I would have the same inclination as "The Rambler". I have been to Donegal on many occasions and have enjoyed every trip, I have never parked in the car park in Donegal but from Ally's comments I look forward to parking there sometime in the future.

As a noob to the motorhome scene I watched this and thought, I would never park like that, I know I cannot overhang the back of my motorhome over a path, it doesn't have to be displayed on a sign for me to know that, if i take up more than one space I will pay for both. There are countless posts on facebook groups about noobs and we are getting a lot of the bad press for parking like that youtube guy. Yes, he was in the wrong, yes, the second ticket was a bit nasty, but he was there two days and did nothing to rectify the situation. He was totally confrontational. I saw a post that someone in Donegal reckons that it was a scam, that the wardens, detective and sergeant were running a scam, and that they were reporting it to Donegal County Council.

He is playing up the "racism" factor for click bait and this is really ticking me off, I really do not think he was targeted over where he came from. Was the owner of the southern reg outside and approachable and told to move on? Don't know, but if he came at me the way he did, I would not be inclined to do him any favors. I would ask any yellow reg members to leave a comment on the on his channel if you feel this was not racially motivated, I really think that he is playing this up too much, this is of course, my opinion.

I will say, that his channel is showing Ireland in a really positive light and they are shooting some fantastic footage, I really do enjoy their channel, but don't think he handled this very well, again imho.

He's a visitor to Ireland, and obviously has a lot to learn about the way of things here. I arrived in '93 and I'm still learning. When Brits like him are around, I try not to be.

Ha! They're repeat offenders... there's another confrontation filmed on August 21st. Title 'Who called the police?'
They then say 'Have we outstayed our welcome in Ireland?'
Yes, if you continue with the confrontational and slightly arrogant attitude.

I don't know why he thinks he has a right to film anyone does he not know about privacy and consent

Think he is confrontational and obviously parked without giving any thought to pedestrians able or disabled.

You can film and take photos of anyone and anything you want without authorisation and you also own the rights to the picture. At least that's what it is in the UK.

You can film and take photos of anyone and anything you want without authorisation and you also own the rights to the picture. At least that's what it is in the UK.

You can film without permission, but can you publish it, particularly where someone else is a main subject of the film?
