The Touring in the trees sites are closed from today. I’ve decided to cancel the permit before the cut off of 31st March unless they come back with a better idea. Van is now Sorn’d and will be used as a picnic spot in the garden. Now I just need Irish Ferries to play the game and cancel my booking in May. They are only facilitating changes on trips up to end of April so far.

We have a son who falls into the 12 week isolation (so far) category, so that changes things for us as a family. The Sooner 2020 is over, the better.

That a bummer I presume he is back home with you and not away in collage. Keep him safe.

Maybe Boris should follow up on the rest of his statement.that would solve your booking issues also.

Boris Johnson warned that if the public can’t follow social isolation measures then: "I'm afraid we're going to have to bring forward tougher measures."

Same as down here, remove the finger and get it sorted.

Indeed Martin, need to follow Russia’s example. :open_mouth: Thankfully he is home and still 2 months of working on his dissertation. Problem is we will be even worse alcoholics by then. Hope all is well at your end and Susie is keeping OK.

An interesting set of posts since mine (#112)
I must say that I agree with the sentiments expressed, while it's harmless to take the mh out for a run if good social separation is exercised the real issue is the public perception which would certainly be negative in these times.

I try not to leave my mh stationary for more than a month so maybe it'll be a few times around the block in 4 or 5 weeks time if permitted. Perhaps a local mh with just the driver on board on urban streets midweek wouldn't look too much like it was on a recreational trip.

Our sailing with Irish Ferries was for 5 May. Tried ringing last Friday, busy line, sent an email asking options..
This morning got through to cancel, there was some question about the Irish Ferries extra insurance policy for MH (will repatriate) but we said we didn’t take it. Refund was €30 same as Davy said . We had flexible option, so in theory for cancellation if still more than 42 days we are entitled to full refund. Unless €30 = cost of flexible option.

Agree with Jamie, and there is also the media looking for a good news story. There has been a lot of great work by people on this forum and in the wider Motorhome community to promote this type of tourism and great strides in opening new places to stay across Ireland. Unfortunately in the weeks ahead, when lots of loved ones are dying and many more are seriously ill, having a nice trip away in a Motorhome, Caravan, holiday home or hotel will be looked on with disdain. Rightly or wrongly. Personally, we have decided that our van will remain off the road for the foreseeable future. As they say, stay home and stay safe. Please be careful everyone.

Agree with Mark and Wendy, we made a run from portugal to cherbourg and got the chance of a Stena line sailing last wednesday.
In a hurried decision we asked the Irish Ferries office about our options , (we already had a booking for April).
They reversed the booking to be from Ireland back to france and the date to 02/november /2020.
I think that we maybe should have pursued a request for cancellation!
On the way home we were knackered and at at overnight stop in Greystones i thought we had some "funny" looks!!
Glad to be home and parked up.
I do not think the van will be out for some time.
stay safe.

Was that last Thursday in Greystones I did see 3 vans going down to the seafront. I taught it was nice to see someone out and about.

Folks, I had a meeting with senior folk in the hospital this morning and this is very serious stuff. It’s not possible for me to go into all the detail, plans and preparations being made here that I’m privy to. Just suffice to say, PLEASE STAY IN YOUR HOMES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. These are serious days that’s all I. Saying but I hope you get the message?

An old friend in Dubai passed away yesterday. 47. Fit, slim, used to be a concert rigger. On March 16th he was posting the usual funny stories about the virus on FB that were common a couple of weeks ago. By March 18th he was posting a picture of himself reading the long list of warnings re. taking Ibuprofen. A few days later his godmother (he was originally from Portugal) was posting on his FB account if anyone knew where is was as they could not reach him at all (we since found out he was in hospital). This was a healthy guy, who did not drink or smoke, just did not make it. I am completely shocked to be honest. This is the last person you would evert think who would get sick and would not survive it. We had a brief visit to Tesco this AM in Meath, it was a very strange experience. I moved my work laptop into the van on Sunday, and now I sit in it all day on calls. Let's look forward to happier times...they might be a while away, looks like we are only at the start of this. Stay Home.

Believe me it’s not the flu and we need to take it serious and very serious. This land will never be the same again.

It just gets more and more worrying. Notice how the virus seems to be proliferating in Australia’s hot temperatures? Not good.

First of 10 Aer Lingus flights on the way to China to collect much needed PPE for health workers. Due back in Dublin with a full load late tomorrow (Sunday). Other 9 flights scheduled over the next few days.

Some of the PPE to come north, well done Leo and thanks.

Well my guess would be don’t pay the balance. In April to France? It’s not happening. Don’t pay it.

We are meant to travel early June. Same as you. I have paid €100. Balance due very soon. I’m going to wait as king as possible. Let Stena chase me for the money, and stretch it out as long as I can. Extremely doubtful though

No chasing, you'll get a cancellation email on the stroke of midnight confirming cancellation. Got one last summer, thought final payment was 30 days but it's 42. Sorted it out quickly the following morning.

Ring them and see what your options are, you may get another couple of weeks.

I probably said here or some other similar post, we were booked with Irish Ferries and cancelled just over 42 days before departure date of early May.. Did it over phone, though it said on website with flexible option you get 100% back of booking fee, (ie €100 paid last Nov) we got €70, I think you don’t get back the flexible option charge.of €30.
We may not get out of our own driveways for months.

I spent the afternoon in the MH again doing another jigsaw.
We have been finishing craft projects we started 40 years ago.
I am crocheting a virus shawl ...not sure why it is called that because I have had the pattern for years.
Our small garden has been pruned , plants repotted etc and we only have a tiny grass area..
We haven’t even tried our external gas bbq or put out the awning of our new MH.

If you can, you should probably put out the awning to air it and stop mildew, weather on Saturday looking good for that Rosemary

The scientists and medical experts in the North are now forecasting a peak in cases in the next fortnight over Easter. They are now suggesting that as restrictions are eased there will be a second wave of cases, although they have not said how serious they think it might be. They are hoping it will be before the usual increased demand on hospitals over winter.

I am beginning to think touring Ireland could be problematic this year. Presumably the governments would clamp down again on movement.

I already cancelled my 2nd May Irish ferries to France. As Rosemary said you need to cancel at least 42 days before departure to reduce your losses. If you have flexible booking then all you lose is that fee. Look at the FAQ on their site for guidance, it is updated every few days. Curiously if I rebooked now for the same dates it would be about €100 cheaper.
Don’t rely on the ferry company cancelling your booking. Irish ferries state it is their intention to keep both Ireland France and Uk routes open.

Have to decide by 10th July for my mid Aug/sept trip, but I am not confident. Just got away with our free trip to England earlier this month. The shutters were coming down while we were away and we had to shorten the trip. Came back the night the north started lockdown on the 23rd.

Davy
