Here's the story of 'True love Ways' that Maria Elena Holley said was written especially for her.
Sometime in the spring of 1958, Buddy Holly hastily threw a frame of a song on Norman Petty's desk and asked to make something of it. As a melody Holly gave as example his beloved gospel song 'I'll Be All Right' by The Angelic Gospel Singers! Norman Petty did the remainder/lyrics and recorded the result sung by his wife Vi Petty on April 6, 1958. When Buddy came back into the studio , he heard the recording and loved it, The song was eventually recorded with an orchestra in Decca Records' studio, the Pythian Temple in New York on October 21, 1958. It would be Holly's last recording session, and it was also the first time that he was accompanied by an orchestra. The orginal 'I'll Be All Right' by The Angelic Gospel Singers was played on Buddy Holly's funeral.
Here the song by Vi Petty on You Tube. The orginal recording still exists too.
