New Motor home parking Bundoran

Not sure if others are aware but there had been a motor home parking area in Bundoran for some time that was unfinished...
I was there today and can report the official opening day is next weekend.
There is EHU on site and water they are apparently going to finishing off the Tarmac this week.
The site is situated at the bottom of the 'retail park' near Lidl.
There looks to be around 20 pitches..

Let's hope councillor mc eniff doesn't get wind of it or he will have us treated like the travellers

Good news to anyone who likes bundoran, but in my view the best thing about bundoran is the bypass.

I sometimes wonder just what people want.. I read plenty of posts on this forum where people have groaned and whinged that councils don't provide anything for motorhomes. Then when something is provided there are still some that are not happy. Now I'm fairly new to this but surely anything that helps us is a positive?
I understand Bundoran isn't everyone's cup of tea but it shows there are councils seeing the advantages of encouraging us to visit.

I think you are right Masterman.
The experience of motorhomers visiting Bundoran in the past has been mixed - even bad. Clearly this has soured the relationship somewhat.

However on the bright side if they are providing a designated place for motorhome stopovers perhaps they have seen the error of their ways.

Blesssed is the hotel owner who repents his sins against the motorhomer etc etc.

To err is human; to forgive is devine :D

Ken, I'm only guessing it is the local council that are running it, bug it could well be that a private company own and run it, I also noticed that there is a planning application for motorhome parking are within Darty view caravan park. No sign of building work as yet..

Looked in today when passing. The Tarmac hasn't been finished yet, there are approximately 7 double electric points and water taps. There is a Barrier on the entrance with a keypad but no sign of who to contact

I hope this is true as we used that area in the past. It was privately operated by the gentleman who built the shopping area beside it before NAMA stepped in to take it over. I know having spoke to the guy he had great plans for developing it and that the council were completely opposed to it. I personally have not stopped in Bundoran since the Aire closed as I know the dislike by local Councillors and business men (Hotel Owner) towards the Motorhome community. If this is true it will be a superb move for us and if it is the Council they should be congratulated.

How and where do you pay to gain entry? The last time I used it payment was made at the coffee shop in shopping area beside it.

Well we arrived today hoping to be able to use the new parking area.. The place was nearly full and we were told we could park one the retail parks carpark.. Oh and would still have to pay €15 for the privilege.. Very odd as there's a huge sign clearly saying 'free parking'
While I have no problem paying to use a site I'm never paying €15!!

We arrived on Friday evening and were made very welcome by the owner although there was a group gathering there for the weekend which meant that the parking area was full with a overspill to the car park outside the barrier. Price for the night is €15.00 including electricity, fresh water, toilet and grey water emptying facilities and the use of toilets inside the adjacent building with showers being added shortly. Access is by a coded barrier with a telephone number on the barrier for the site owner to give you the code to gain entry. He is hoping that the surface will be finished this week and the site fully functional by next weekend.
I am sorry for the experience that Masterman had but it was not the experience we had.
I think the site will be a great asset to Motorhomers and deserves to be supported, I will certainly be back.

(I have no connection to the owner or vested interest).

Is 'camping' allowed, i.e.. are you allowed to wind out the awning, put out tables/chairs and fire up the barbie.

At €15 it's right out at the top of the price range.
Examples:
Biarritz is €12 inc. ehu SEE HERE
Biscarrosse is €8 Sept - June, €15 July-August, services if required €4 SEE HERE
La Palmyre (Royan) is €8 all season, services if required are €4 water €2 ehu. SEE HERE

Spent the weekend here for sea sessions. And was very impressed, its 15 euro, inc electric, has water and toilets. The guy who owns it is a really nice individual, he was on site to see if everyone was happy and if there is anything more he could do. I left on sunday morning with a very positive impression. And the Indian next door does the biggest kebabs in the world!

And AFAIK it's council owned and operated, we need more of this type of site where money grabbing is not the prime objective.

10 minute (about 1.5miles) cycle into mohill village,

Now the pilote that is a very good question. Being a cleargyman I would have to say, God only knows what he owns but he is a very, very, very wealthy man and what he doesn't own he has influence and controls.

Just back from a two night stay, this could be a great spot but it seems the owner is allowing caravans to stay and this has attracted some of the more permanent caravan dwelling types. With washing hung over the fence and patio furniture beside their vans. It looked to me that they where there for a while.
