What do you use in your Toilet?

Blue stuff?
Washing capsules?

I see a lot of people are using some sort of washing capsules in their toilets from Lidl, they all seem to recommend them instead of the blue stuff.

Anyone here using them?

I have read that too.

To be honest we have always used aquakem.
We realise that not as much is required as recommended if you empty often.

I don't think the chemical works properly unless it is given time to break down what's in the cassette.

I must admit I have never heard of the washing capsules, I use whatever blue is available in the shops in France. I did meet a Frenchman who told me they use compost powder which you can get in the garden section of Super U or any of those. Some washing powders can be very corrosive so I would worry about damage to the working parts of the cassette.

Those that use the washing capsules seem to swear by them, some having used them for years, they reckon it leaves it cleaner and when you empty it leaves a nice smell.

I'll go and see if I can find some info.

Great info Ally, I,m off to Aldi. I hate the blue stuff as I always seem to get it on my hands, and even though I carry surgical gloves I don't always use them if I'm in a hurry.
Nice one

i never use blue or green

get washing tablets or single liquid sachets
cheapest own brand

must be biological!!!!!!

no smell, and some sites insist on no chemicals so this is fine.

also if wild camping and you empty at night(lol) in public toilet there is only waste being disposed off.

presently we are using co ops own brand tablets but have used tesco asda and lidl brands before, absolutely no difference.

bottle blue at ten twelve quid or tablets at a few quid, you decide.

Yeah just the one, some people use two but one is enough as Bob says make sure it is Bio and not Non Bio.

Worked a treat for me.

its especially useful if you wild camp as you can empty your cassette when you get a chance regardless if its full or not,and not cost you a fortune!

Tried this out this weekend. Put in one tablet Friday evening. Masked any smells but by this morning the effect had begun to wear off. Maybe 2 tablets or empty daily may be a solution

I use Aquakem green pearls as this is suitable for septic tanks if I have to empty at home. Might give the washing tabs a try though when I run out of the green stuff

Just bringing this thread back to the top...

We had that much blue stuff with the Motorhome it was only lately we have been using washing tablets. Bought the lavender smelling ones from Tesco, wish we had of threw the blue stuff out months ago!

Much better smell now and the cassette is sooo much cleaner! :-)

Indeed like you I'm also on the liquid bio tabs (Bold 2 in1 Lavender & Camomile) except I only add the bio tab to the waste tank. I have a very small amount of Zaflora (Floral Bouquet) in the flush tank which then smells nice once the unit is flushed (a small amount so the bio action is not affected).

We use the bio tabs too. I find you need to empty it every day or they don't work as well but most empty daily anyway. I hate the smell of that blue stuff never mind the price !!

Hi, interesting idea...

With the exception of Viktor is everyone else just using water in the flush reservoir?

We use the blue stuff - must admit to ignorance of not disposing into the septic tank until now! :o Although our waste water treatment doesn't actually go septic anyway, so I'm going to pretend I never heard that :-)

We'll probably give the tablets a go when we run out of the aquachem, but must admit to being a bit put off with the comments about them only lasting a day compared to the aquachem though. We would get a long weekend out of the aquachem with no smell issues at all. So how many tablets, and could you top it up by throwing another one in to counter smells after a day or two?

Just on the flush, as far as I can make out we don't have a flush reserve. I've given away the flush stuff we had from our porta potti days anyway!

I use two tablets and have had no problems with smells over a weekend, no reason why you couldn't fire another one in.

In saying that mine is a waste carlsberg holder and fills up quite fast :D

I guess it depends...I don't have No2's in mine so I can get away with a little amount of Zaflora (just enough to add a slight fresh smell to the water) in the flush tank....if you're using it for both I'dd guess at one in the flush tank and two in the cassette....having said that using the it way I am I haven't had any unpleasant smells for up to a week but it usually gets emptied after a few days anyway.

One really good tip I picked up on was a recommendation to carry a rucksack big enough to put your cassette in....some motorhomers then head into a public toilet or a hotel toilet with it for a stealth emptying :D

Spent a weekend in Nagles a few weeks ago with the grandkids and used the tablets for the first time (Aldi's best) and they worked a treat. Won't go back to the blue stuff again.

they do the blue the stuff in small bags/sacks now which come in a tub, easier to store,

you can get different sizes, we just bought a couple of tubs with 18 sacks in each, no measuring etc, just throw one in each time and it dissolves like the washing tabs.

they are a bit more expensive than the liquid, but we tried the tabs and still think the blue stuff is better, maybe with 2 kids it has to work harder??

I've actually been using aldi concentrated bio liquid rather than the tabs recently - a couple of capfuls in the tank. I think its a bigger dose, but no issues dissolving it and I have found it more effective than the tabs.

I'm still using the blue stuff for longer trips though, while I still have it, and the washing liquid for shorter trips.

I use Aquachem. I find I empty toilet every 2nd day. I just like to ensure that the bowl is smelling sweet. I do have a couple of Aldi camper fluids to hand, but I wont use these until me Aquachem is gone, so cannot comment on how effective the Aldi fluid will be yet.
