Ally, when this sort of crap is going on I think we are fighting a loosing battle with public opinion regarding motorhomes.
Ireland, both north and south, is getting to a point that we are seen as nuisance and to be shunned at every opportunity.... reinforced by this sort of behaviour on the parking front.

Exactly, and I know there are those on here that say I should not of posted it, but if we are going to condemn those against us then we need to condemn our own when they ruin it for the rest of us. It is after all in a newspaper so we must be seen to condemn that sort of behaviour.

When you see this type of parking it's easy to understand why the local Councils fit height barriers to their Carparks.
I think that posting photos like these is a reminder to us all that this type of behaviour should not be tolerated.
The public does not recognise Motorhomers spending money in the Towns or Communities they visit, but they do see Motorhomes when they park in this manner and then all are branded with the same brush!
One can well imagine the damage this has done by being printed in that Newspaper.
I think Name and Shame!

And looking at the parking area, it looks like he'd have fitted nicely in the end spot (between the white lines in a single parking bay) with a gap between the hedges for his side door...

I wouldn't go that far personally. Despite my frustration when I seen it this morning, if the owner has seen their Motorhome in the newspaper and on here and notices that other Motorhomers frown upon those actions well that's good enough for me. If it has let the public know that we do not support that type of parking then this topic has set out what it intended to do. I'm afraid though that Joe Public probably does not read this website.

Totally agree with you posting this photo, Ally. In this case it has been highlited in the Papers and reached the General public. We now have to be seen to take this seriously and convey the message that it is totally un acceptable by the majority of Motorhomers. I reckon most of those offenders are not associated with a Club or a forum like this and are just ignorant or selfish, every Motorhomer gets a Tax disk in the post or over the counter, would it be possible to include a do's and don't' leaflet with it signed by what ever Clubs and forums are out there stating that we don't accept this kind of behaviour , I am sure the local authorities would welcome any help.

Surely its just common sense to park within bays if they're provided. The only right and proper thing to do. But if an individual will park like this, even once, he is showing his disregard for his fellow travellers. No matter what their mode of transport is. The saddest part of this is, fellow motorhomers never see this happening so can't politely point out the error of his ways.
Whenever we leave the EU there will be a lot of rules amended, and hopefully a new one, regarding parking like a Richard, introduced!

While this guy was an absolute plonker, I wonder how may cars, vans and trucks were illegally or badly parked (taking up one that one space etc) in that town that day/week? And furthermore, I wonder how many of those had their photo taken and printed in said newspaper?

At the end of the day it is a single vehicle that was illegally parked and there are ways to deal with that that don't include a fostering a vendetta against motorhomes. But unfortunately, what you have here is a single situation being used to do just.

Wonder if it would be worth a letter to the paper explaining our disappointment at the behaviour of the van owner and how we try to encourage responsible usage. Properly worded it could be used to put over our needs and The need for council action and provision.

At the end of the day, the number of poor examples of motorhoming behaviour is probably no higher or lower (proportionately) than the number of poorly parked cars in streets or car parks.

Too true TeamRienza
I have condemned MH owners myself on this forum in relation to parking.
Yet as you say irresponsible MH parking is a very small percentage of all the bad parking that occurs countrywide by other motorists.
I guess that because it is a Motorhome it is immediately recognized and is classed as a nuisance.

That's exactly where I have seen motor homes parked like that before wonder if it's the same one but they are not the only offenders we stopped for lunch today at red bay and there were vehicles with their boat trailers taking up four or five marked out bays in the public car park

Regarding the Autocruise. That open window is certainly a danger in a public area, imaging the injury it could cause to a member of the public who might walk into it.

The plonker at Newcastle should have been done by the Traffic Warden or Police for a parking offence.

Problem with that car park if my memory serves me right there are no bays marked out don't know how the law would work on that, there are always three or four motor homes in it at weekends but most of them park properly.

ah - not quite what i had in mind,he needs education, not intimidation, i know that there are wordsmiths on here who could draw up a wee sticker that just might have a positive affect. For ones that parked too close I used to leave one that said - "next time leave a f-----g tin opener so i can get my car out-c---s like you should take the bus",--but i could run faster then and i doubt if it ever did much good.
if we start from the premise that these folk do not realise that their parking is perceived as unnacceptable
we might be able to fix even one of them.wouldn't that be worth doing?

Still there at 1800 today with the window still open. Also lockers open and 2 beach chairs along the drivers side. The carpark was full with cars waiting for a place to park. Cars parked at right angles to MH both front and back so MH would have problem getting out if they wanted to.

As NI plates probably local so should know the score and the 'normal' orientation. Only mitigating factor is that there are no bays marked out in the entire carpark.

Put the sack cloth and ashes away lads. I live near a funeral home (corpse house?)and when there`s anyone in house, the CAR parking is maniacal. MH`s are motor cars according to EU,but they don`t park four wheels on the pavement, or three deep at junctions do they?. I think the prob is size,(isn`t it always) and we do tend to get noticed. Been following Tour de France. No problem with the MH`s on that route. Counted 70+ on one rural road .

Sorry about the confusion. While not intending to be specific, what I should have written should have offered more clarity, Since I was unable to ascertain who the errant driver was I thought it best not to approach the only person who was old enough to hold a license. For all I knew she could have been writing a blog for The South Down WLM

If that car park in Newcastle is the one I think it is it's the one opposite the main Donard car park, no bays marked out and absolute chaos when the likes of the airshow is on. Rebyvid's Google link is a separate one altogether.

To stir things up a little, while certain aspects of the parking could be condemned what law has he broken after all no marked bays, unlike like the first one or the one at Howth. There is a lack of adequate parking in Newcastle more so with a view of the sea, officially according to the parking wardens and council traffic officials we can use the coach spaces in Donard park, but it won't take much for us to fill those then offend the coach companies!

I feel that we are being irresponsible in posting his reg number on here when no law is being broken, those car parks are a nightmare and I personally wouldn't use them as you can get blocked in and depending on your van legnth have difficulty in getting into any sort of acceptable position, which is possibly what that van may have experienced!

The law of common sense and being kind to your fellow man.

I do agree about the registration, I was going to delete the two photos or even edit them to hide the reg but I hadn't the facility to edit as I was away, I therefore let it slide.

We can complain and we need to show that we discourage that type of parking, but I personally don't do witch hunts.
