Wild camping

Taking a little road trip from the 24th of this month ! We are coming from Antrim hoping to spend a little time in Skibbereen / Kinsale area don't no way just fancy it really . We would need a half way stop over ' would be greatfull if someone could suggest somewhere nice and most of all safe ' We are two girls on tour and pretty new to wild camping . so would appreciate any advice on same :up:

Although not wild camping, this site is only euro 6.50 per person with a free bottle of their apple juice. Just a suggestion as I don't know about wild camping in this area. See post below

Many thanx for ur reply ! sounds perfect however I forgot to say we also have two small dogs and its appears they don't except dogs on site sadly ! but thank you for taking the time to replay

They might be off the route a bit ..........Garrykennedy, while no camping signs are there it's no problem parking overnight. Google it, it's in Tipperary.... :sleep: .. :up:

A farmer in Ardmore Co. Waterford, has a field for motorhome parking. He charges 10 Euro per night. There are no facilities, but it is right on the beach, with access to it. It is a few minutes walk to the village. Just as one comes into the village turn left and about half a mile, and there is a sign at the entrance.

Field in Ardmore Co Waterford

Hi all,
Just a word on that field by the beach in Ardmore ,We are just home after spending the weekend there and am glad to report that Richard Power has facilities in place to empty your toilet ,also a tap for fresh water.I'm sure with the festival coming up at the end of the month this place will really do well.

Any photos of the site Dan?

I'd be interested to hear your full opinion of the place. We got down as far as the farmyard that I've circled below, in red. The time we went there to view the site, it wasn't very appealing. The lane was deeply potholed and pretty muddy (working farm)... I'm really hoping this site will do well as its a cracking beach and nice little village.

Was the "field by the beach" right above the other campsite devoted to static mobile homes?

Hey, Just to answer your question yes the way into the field is a little bumpy as you say its a working farm .
Yes the field is right next to the caravan park .Do you know the path from the beach car park that leads over to all the caravan parks ? Well this field is on that path.We we there Friday and Saturday night along with about 13 of 14 other vans. He was hooking up the water supply and finishing off around the toilet disposal area .
He is a very welcoming friendly guy he told us to park wherever we like in the field we could use our windbreakers if we wanted to. Great spot ,lovely quiet area beautiful scenery (we sat up in bed sun morning and watched a windsurfer ride the waves),and there was no rush to leave we stayed until about 3.30 and all for €10 . Personally we'll be back as often as we can an definitely for the festival weekend the 26th of July.We have the motorhome craic sticker proudly displayed on our van be sure to say hello if you come across us.

We spent this afternoon on the beach at Ardmore.

While we were there, we had a look at the motorhome parking area.

I brought my camera...



The bumpy road has been repaired. (not so bumpy now).

It was very busy up at that end of the beach... (Yikes)

has anyone been there in the wet just worried about getting stuck on grass its a pet hate of mine i have been stuck on grass too many times but being so close to beach it probably has good drainage

Since the last post I found that the farmer (Richard Power) in Ardmore, County Waterford, has installed a toilet emptying place and freshwater. I don't know if the overnight charge has increased from €10 because of this.

:up: I have no problem paying up to 10 euro per night, anything over that I would think twice for basic parking.

One year on, we finally got to use this facility and I must say it was brilliant. Still €10 per night and there was 31 Motorhomes parked up and room for another 100. The driveway in is quite good now, the grass was cut, water and toilet disposal available and it is right on the verge of the Beach. :up:

This sounds like someone who knows the advantages of providing parking for Motorhomes at a reasonable cost,after all 31 times 10 euro is not a bad nights pay.Let us hope that more site owners see this and understand what they are loosing out on.

Anyone interested there is restaurant called The White Horses on the main street and it is lovely.
Afternoon tea or the bar food in the Cliff house is also nice but pricey. Oh and they have a spa to die for.
