I thought the mains should only charge the liesure battery because of the split charging system when the engine is running the alternator charges both batteries when the engine is turned of the liesure battery supplies the Motorhome rather running both batteries down it would cause starting problems

The mains charged the engine battery on my last motorhome, I've just checked the electrical set up in the manual and it looks like it charges the engine battery as well. Maybe I should have a look around an try and figure out the system.

If your mains charger is spilt charging both engine and house battery, there will be a fuse fitted onto the wire from charger to engine battery. It is probably blown. Happy hunting.

Checked it out and found out that it only charges engine battery with very low amps, it's just for giving a small charge for the cab radio when used. Thanks to all who commented on the post, it helped me sort out the problem.
