3 network mifi abroad.

I have a three mifi and have just topped it up for france this weekend.
I have read conflicting reports (even on the three website).

What I want to know is simply. Will it work in France when I arrive?

The staff in the shop are as useful as a chocolate fire guard. One said yes, one said no, one said call this number. The number asked for your phone number which I don't remember as I was never told I would need it. I sent 3 customer support an email and got an auto reply telling me I would get a reply within 5 days.

It is a data sim not a phone sim.
I know it should pick up a partner network.

Can I assume it does not need any activation for outside the home network?

Any experience?
How did yours work the first time?

You must have met the same staff I met last September.

I got a Mifi and told them quite clearly that it was to be used in France the following week and was not warned/told that I needed to do anything special before I went.

Arrived in France and it just would not connect to anything. Yet both my phones (On T-Mobile) were connecting easily.

Read up on the 3 website and found out that I should have used the mifi before leaving the UK AND should have enabled roaming BEFORE leaving the UK as well.
Roaming cannot be enabled after you have left the country.

So the short answer is NO! it will not work until you have enabled roaming - it is switched off by default.

BUT my mifi is on a contract - it looks like you are on PAYG and the 3 website says yours is already enabled IF you have topped up before you go.

Confuddling - errrrrrrrrrr Yes.

I think the only answer will be to ring Customer Services as it seems the default setup may be different between PAYG and Pay Monthly.

Anyone know if 3 Mifi works in the Republic? and does that come under the "Feel at Home" deal?

As I said in my first post I can't get through to customer services as I don't know the phone number of the SIM card.

Not to worry. I will know on Monday morning when I arrive in cherbourg.

If you plug the Mifi in to the computer using a USB lead you can find out the number of the SIM.

If it works in the south it should work in France, my PAYG mifi did, the guy in the shop I got mine in told me you had to be using it in the UK for at least 30days from when you get it before the feels like home bit will work. You also have to top it up before you go as you can't top up once away.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have had this for over a year but don't top up very often. I have used it at home since the top up so we will see.
The sim has a code but no phone number on it.

If I am not online for the next two weeks you will all know it didn't work.

If you connect it by USB and let the software self install the number is shown on the front screen.

it will start +447............
