Are you talking about the likes of an American rv or say an English reg motorhome or something from mainland Europe, as I think there are people on here who have done one or possibly more of these options and maybe even ones I haven't listed

If I remember correctly Pat (chausson) did it but he has just gone off to France on his holidays so I don't know if he will be able to respond or not before he gets back.

Many years ago I imported a car from Germany to the uk. The rules so that I did not pay any extra in terms of tax were that I had to have the car in Germany for 6 months and I could not sell it for a year otherwise I would have to pay the customs tax. This year I imported my mh from uk to ROI and same rules applied I had to demonstrate ownership in the uk for 6 or more months and I can't sell it here for a year from date of import otherwise I have to pay the import duty.

I can expand on the process via pm later in the week if you'd like?

The problem in ROI seems to be the VRT its a make it up as they go along tax you cant get a figure until you bring the van in 🇧🇭 🇧🇭

hi taylor, im mostly interested in NI as it seems, from what ive read, to be an easier process and no VRT on used vans if proof that VAT has been payed in country of origin. Im just trying to make contact from someone who has actually done it recently. The vagaries of ROI VRT valuation process seem unfair.
Id be interested in what was involved from the german dealership end though if you want to PM I can ask a few questions if you dont mind?

When you imported your MH to ROI from UK last year, did you have to be resident in the UK or just have to own it in UK for 6 months?

If this question is for me as did exactly as you asked. I had to prove the vehicle was in the UK for 6 months or more. It clearly helped having a UK address, payslips, uk insurnace and bills for the motorhome in the uk plus they wanted to see my ferry ticket. I believe the legal requirments is to have had the vehicle outside of the ROI for 6+ monhts but in order to prove that I had to show the documentation if not I think it would have been much harder.
