C Licence

 ·

I discovered some months ago that my camper is 4897kg and as ye all know a c1 or c licence is required to drive it. I didn't have one grrrrrrr. So i set about doing the usual theory test and all the lessons in a truck 3 times bigger than my mh and after failing my first try and my test i finally passed my test today and how nice it was to take my Winnie out for a good drive. But my question is can anyone explain the rsa thinking of making a man or woman drive a rigid truck weighing over 10ton just to get a licence to drive a camper. There has to be an easier way for us motorhomers who drive bigger camper to obtain a licence without the whole hassle of driving a monster truck 3 times bigger.

Was thinking of setting up a meet somewhere if any rv owners were interested too. Could have it down here in kerry maybe dingle or killarney or even kenmare. would love to cast my eyes over the other rv's and see where i can improve mine. Iv fully reupholstered the interior and done lots of mechanicals to it. But before the summer closes would love one weekend out somewhere. Will post pic of work done in next few days.

Well done Richard. Can you give an idea of the total cost of getting that c licence?

Theory test
Permit
Lessons
Test
Licence
Etc

Just to give folks an idea of what is involved.

Thx

Ok i took around 7 lessons which were €60 each. then for first test it cost €150 for truck rental and €120 for the test itself. then €120 again for 2nd test and again €150 for truck rental. So take into account theory test cost and lessons and truck rental and licence cost for permit and full. its cost aprox my marrage and a kidney, but in €'s around €1200. But id pay it all again tbh once i can drive Winnie.

Hi Richard she is sweet! Many happy miles together. I think you should post asking if there is an interest in a meet and see how many takers you get. Can us we small ones come along and look at your big machines?

Just saw this post, as we're just back (recovered! ) from 4 weeks in France :) Nice job on the RV and, I'd love to attend an RV meet, dunno if I'd go all the way down to Killarny (I'm in Bangor ) just for a weekend though (self employed etc.) :( Maybe somewhere midway between North and South? Wicklow praps?
