Searching for a Motorhome (moan)

It has to be one of the most drawn out exercises known to man.

Frustrating things so far, which usually make me go straight to the next one:

Websites with no prices - automatically think, expensive

Websites with P.O.A - automatically think, expensive

Websites with more "SOLD" than "For Sale", you may think it makes you look good, it doesn't

Viewing the same Motorhome over and over again on 20 different sites

Websites with no search function for price

Websites with no stock list

Just because I don't want to spend 80K doesn't mean i should go to the back of the list, prices should ascend not descend

I'm not a mind reader, I want to know what year it is, and quoting an English year letter won't do it at all.

Pictures the size of postage stamps/poor grainy images

Catch all websites like Ad Trader

"No longer available"

Ok rant over, I'm sure there are more

have you checked www.mobile.de

if you see anything you like, it will mean importing to UK, but it is very straight forward.

some are vat qualifiers too if that helps. and all will be left hand drive, tho this may not suit you.

we bought our first motorhome from a guy in Ballymoney who seems to buy repossesed stock at auctions in the uk, think he traded under leisuretimemotorhomes, i have no connection with him, but the way he seems to work is, you tell him what you are after and how much you want to spend and he will not commit to anything without speaking to you first.

have driven past his a few times and see he always has coachbuild and a few a class dethleffs or the like etc mostly 06/07 stuff

As we're currently also looking for a replacement motorhome I can sympathise!

My addition to your list would be when you visit a dealer and can't try out stuff in a van because the leisure battery's flat.

I actually find ebay's quite good for browsing, and getting an idea what you like as there are often lots of photos. Of course there are a whole bunch of caveats when buying a motorhome from ebay though!

Agreed, Ebay is the best, also great for seeing what bargains there are and a good bargaining tool when looking at others ;)

I have 9 pages in my watch list - lol

It's enough to put one into the funny farm.

Been there, the food's not that great.

It's all good, think I could start a Motorhome dealership with what I have learned on prices :-)

(ok maybe not)

I would say 98% of Motorhomes this time of year don't sell. So 7 of those pages are finished ad's with mobile numbers ;)

To All,

Be aware of SCAMMERS operating on E BAY, I have reliable information of people loosing considerable amounts to these fraudsters.

Good point Bill....it was tried on me last June with a very very good condition VW with a fair price....the guy was pushing for payment before I could see the goods....wanted me to forward the money to an escrow account as a measure of good faith...sent me a fake ebay 'invoice' too...cheeky beggar....of course I'm 100% sure the 'escrow' account was fake lol.

Been tried on me also. To be honest I would never part with cash unless I was standing beside a vehicle and had done all the checks. Even that can create a nasty situation as some have got robbed while looking at a vehicle.

I have bought dozens of vehicles of Ebay (classicd cars) and everyone apart from one was ok, the one that wasn't was not the condition it was supposed to be, I just walked away although it turned out costly with flights etc.

Too much time on my hands..

There are currently 3500 motorhomes, campervans, RV's for sale on Ebay, plus all the other websites. You would think it would be easy to find "the one" but it's not :)

Have you tried www.donedeal.ie ?

Yeah thanks, a few bargains on there but a lot seem to be very overpriced compared to GB.

I is never easy, there is no perfect motorhome made yet, and probaly never will. We usually take about 4 years or more to find something we both like, but you will find you will miss lots of important things, it is only after you have it a while and are using it you find what is wrong for your needs, but that is life enjoy, it is a good time to be buying, some good deals around.

Yes thanks, I have three that I am going to view hopefully next week. All in GB.

Can't wait, been without a MH for far to long! :)
