Anybody any advice as to the best Breakdown Cover deals available - I thinking particularly for France this summer. In France twice last year without any cover and its a worry if something major happens.
Rough prices and companies would be very helpful

thanks

I always get cover with the Caravan Club. Last year it cost me £98 for 4 weeks for motorhome and trailer in which I tow my 2CV. By the way it also covered the 2CV if I broke down when I was away from the Camp.

We also did France without cover, but last year we had ADAC and it was great piece of mind.
If you add your location to your profile , you will get more accurate information.

It is worth checking with your insurance company to see what they cover and whether they may provide additional cover and at what price.

We also went to France last year and for peace of mind took out breakdown cover with ADAC . It also works for Ireland and any motor you are driving including SWMBO.

I recently read the small print in our green flag European breakdown cover.

Although there is repatriation it states you may not be eligible for it if you have refused to have repairs carried out locally.

You would want to be slipping a brown envelope to the local Garage :bandit:

Breakdown Assist

 ·
Posted: 12.02.2014  ·  #13
Hi.
We are insured with Dolmen who use AXA. I think for around €300 for fully comp. with breakdown assist. Last year we had a blow out one of the National roads that are like the motorways. It was really scary as the cars were flying past and the the back left tyre was the one that blew out. We called Dublin to the breakdown service. Within 10 mins we had call from England. We gave our co-ordinates and a tow truck arrived within the hour. He brought us and the van off the road to a safe place and changed the tyre. He then gave us options as to where to go to get replacement. This was done with efficiency and delightful manners. We had absolutely no problems. I am not sure if it had been something different that had happened, then it may have been different but I would recommend them.

Oops just wanted to add that it is important to check that the repair man is from your breakdown assist. That is a long story for some other time !!!, suffice to say make sure he is not some random person

The dolmen cover will provide the service just as you say but not repatriation. Additional cover is still a good idea.
