Interesting.
Some hard work ahead if it is all to be implemented in the time frame.

The document has Irish Caravan and Camping Council (ICC) stamped all over it.
IMHO it is the Irish Caravan and Camping Council's anti Aires strategy, it makes not even a hint that the development of anything remotely resembling an offering which is modelled in the French Aire's is contemplated.
A big 'thumbs down' from me as it looks like Fáilte Ireland have been well and truly knobbled by the ICC.

I'm afraid that I agree wholeheartedly with Baguette. That was what I saw the whole way through the document.

The one good thing is that within the roughly 3,300 words in the document they mentioned the word Motorhome six times. That's probably six times more than it has ever been mentioned before.

While I wouldn't hold my breath for any real changes to occur it may be that slowly we'll some improvements leaking in.

I also agree. No mention made of tasking County/Town Councils or Waterwyas Ireland with providing Aire style facilities or adding facilities for Campers at existing locations along the Shannon for instance. Seems to be aimed at improving the lot for campsites. Grand, provided these sites are reasonably priced and provide good standards. At any rate lets see what comes out of this review for all who enjoy all classes of camping in Ireland. I also would not be holding my breath as there are too many separate organistions responsible for tourist activities etc around Ireland. And the LEFT hand doesn't know what the RIGHT hand is doing!
I hope some of those involved have been to the continent to see how its done properly.I have been on Municipal sites all over France which are excellently run and many are better located than some of the Official campsites.

I wonder where they think Motorhome users should go, they clearly state there are some 3,000 less pitches currently available than 11 years ago!
