European versus UK MH's

Looking round at MH's it seems the European ones have a better finish and some seem to be better built for winter, is this usually the case? although I see they don't seem to have an oven :-|

Habitation door on the other side, I can't really see an issue with this unless I am missing something obvious?

Our Knaus is European spec but right hand drive.
Door on the right is not a problem unless you are getting out while parked at the roadside as you are not on the footpath side.

On campsites we have encountered very little difficulties as we can always drive "nose in" and make the door side the same as everyone else if required.

The oven in European van either tends to be basic or non existant. I think they have it as an option or else think most people cook outdoors...

Personally I prefer european vans on looks and build quality. I think the slot in glass fronted oven like a house is uncalled for.

I think no matter what any of us pick it will compromise in some way or another.

Isn't that a fact, there seems to be ALWAYS a compromise.

I never have a problem with flowing drink, well actually that's a lie. It always runs out!

Sorry to be taking this back to the original question !!!

I have always bought based on the layout that I (we) wanted together with price, reputation for build quality and general reliability of the particular 'van that I was after.

However it may be that many of the 'vans are only available in LHD. That actually was a plus for me as I (we) intended to do as much European touring as we could and I would personally prefer to be on the correct side while away from home. I always felt that I would be more comfortable sitting on the wrong side while driving in Ireland/UK, especially should the worst happen at least I could argue my corner in English.

In the event driving LHD here has never proved an issue at all and I still feel that for me buying LHD was the correct decision - three times.

Regarding better insulation. I believe that many European vans were better insulated than their UK cousins in the past, however I think that this is less of an issue in recent years. Frequently though you will see larger capacity fresh and waste water tanks on the European vans; with the fresh water tank almost always inboard.

I agree Cobra Rob. I would base my buying decision on the other points as discussed above with layout the primary point. It's essential to be happy on that one first.
