Passed CVRT today.

A friend of mine failed the CVRT today. One of the issues was sidewall cracking on the inside of the tyres, all four of them 😳
They are three year old Continental Camper tyres on his Mercedes based A-class which gets lots of use.

That sure would be hard to take, are they 3 year old from being fitted to his motorhome and possibly have been shelved many years somewhere else, or are they 3 years old from manufacturing?

They were fresh stock when bought, various manufacturing dates ranging from late 2017 (5117) to early 2018, so on average only four years old at present. They were fitted during the summer of 2018, three and a half years ago.
The have between 5mm and 6mm thread still left. Seriously bad value.

One of my orange side lights hasn't been working since I got the MH, bulb holder burnt out and I keep forgetting to fit a new one. The test centre said as it's not strictly necessary for the safe running of the vehicle they didn't need to be tested. The van has passed every year, so much for it being a standard test nationwide.

Found the same on 4.5 year old Michelin Aglis Camping tyres under the 'van at home. Cracks were hard to spot until the tyre was deflated. Strangely the tyres on the side that gets most sun were worse.....

Well I didn’t do anything to my van today but I’m thinking about it.
Someone on here not long ago fitted a Lagun swivel table leg and I’m wondering was it worth the money and secondly did they buy genuine or a Chinese copy.
I’ve used the search engine for the post to no avail.
Any advice good or bad appreciated. The Chinese ones are circa £100 whilst genuine are £159. 😳

I think that was @panda in his previous van, the genuine Lagun one.

Youtuber compares both a genuine an Chinese knock off here:

Time to resurrect one of my favorite threads...

Passed the CVRT this evening first go, tester took some time to chat about the van afterwards. Recommend changing the rear shocks, they're pretty equally f***ed so still passed. He also commented on how good it was underneath, said most Transits of a similar age he sees are rotten underneath, he did mention the underseal job that had been done, cheers Ally, some of the best money I ever spent.

Well we both showered in the van this evening on our drive as the gas boiler has spat the dummy out.
It’s nice to have a backup 👍

To be honest, I read a lot about ground clearance abd the side roll/ sway of a heavyweight A Class, so I got them as a package of stuff I considered I might require when I was fitting it out, extra solar second battery, inverter, spare wheel and carrier, RHD headlamps, ( I couldn't fit the headlamps) and I've never really felt the need to fit the air suspension. I've about 600 kg payload as i stands, it's 3.850kg.van.

I've just fitted 'Air Lift' airbags to the front axle, they're the ones that go into the coil springs and you adjust the pressure via a Schrader valve fitted wherever you wish.
They add stability, stopping sway and bottoming out on dips in the road, and roll in corners they also give a bit of a lift. So far, I'm pretty impressed, I set them at 25psi and noticed the difference. Ive just upped them to 35psi to see how they perform.

After a slight mishap with the glass burner cover / lid, they don't like to be heated from beneath, ( not putting the blame on anyone, but I didn't do it O-) ) I fitted a replacement gas ring cover.
A new replacement from Dometic Smev cost £300, when available. I was not going there, it could happen again, and again etc. so the alternative was a piece of Aluminum cut to size and polished. total cost € 50. I'm not charging her for the Labor, Ops,the cat is out of the bag. >_<

I’m never sure if I have turned knob around the right way and if flame off, hard to see in bright light.
Or how soon after cooking you can put lid down. I like the stainless steel idea, feel happier setting a hot saucepan on it.

I've had a day of replacing antennas, first, the TV, then the radio.
I've never liked the winegard, wind up antenna that most RV's come with, they look ugly, and having to remember to wind them down can be a pain.
So, I now have a directional, Winegard Razar antenna, easy to change, despite the time taken to remove the sticky, mastic stuff. So far, I'm getting over 80 digital channels, mainly crap I know, and that's plenty for me.
The radio always had terrible reception, and I could hardly find any channels. I thought maybe a loose connection, and that would've been fun to locate under the dash etc... However, first step, try a new aerial and bingo, fantastic reception and it just screwed in to the old aerial socket.
Nice to have an easy result for a change. Still chasing leak somewhere near the door, very strange as I've sealed everything possible around and above the door and window. I know thats where it is as, during our 3 week summer ( yeah, remember that....) i was able to test whilst it was dry and thats deffowhere i poured water....
Its a strange one as the wall inside and out is dry, but after rain, when parked up, there's a drip coming from the wall onto the concrete floor for days....👍

Paul what Aerial did you use, I have a pillar mounted on the Fiberglass with an Earth wire secured to the mounting screw going to the Chassis earth, reception is rubbish. there is a second Aerial mounted on the Roof but there doesn't seem to be any ground Earth, the head roof cover would need to be removed to see how to earth it, no idea why it was fitted in the first place, neither did the dealer.

I've given up on FM radio, the reception is nearly always crap in motorhomes.
I now stream into the radio from the phone via Bluetooth, before I had a radio with Bluetooth I used an aux input from the earphone jack in the phone.
Now I have perfect digital quality reception and can listen to my favorite stations everywhere, even when touring in Europe.

Mine came from the States, as we have a Ford based RV, and I think they worked out at £120 delivered, from Air Ride. I used US Amazon.

Like Baguette I too have given up on fm radio,

I fitted 3 different aerials including the wire that leads into the back of the radio,
Then said it must be the radio its self,
so after 3 aerials & on 3rd radio the latest has bluetooth & camera so thats it, it will do me nicely,

Dublin's Q102 all day long in our mh

"The radio always had terrible reception, and I could hardly find any channels. I thought maybe a loose connection, and that would've been fun to locate under the dash etc... However, first step, try a new aerial and bingo, fantastic reception and it just screwed in to the old aerial socket."

I was lucky, I have an aerial on the roof, above the driver's seat. All I had to do was buy a generic, screw on one, unscrew the old and replace with new one which was a bit longer and has made a hell of a difference.
Maybe you need to get a new aerial and lead, fit it in a handy place and connect. Your existing aerial sounds a bit over complicated to get to perhaps...

I too had given up and bought a digital adaptor that the radio picks up at 80Mz. It works OK, but its not great, I'll give your method using the phone a go, I already blue tooth Audible books and Yt music to it.
