Are you going to Downpatrick or Newtownards? Best wishes for the test, most of the guys are very interested. I talked to the 2 guys doing mine for about 5 minutes or more after the test was complete and they generally know that we look after our vans very carefully, so there a few things not tested. The previous Motorhome that I had was usually driven by me over the pit and brakes and steering wheel operated by me. Now a tester drives the van, so if you are lucky you can chat to him for the ten minutes or so while they test it.

Davy

It’s Newtownards for me. power hosed the underneath today. Replaced a corroded tail light bulb and found that I need a new side marker light. Might try soldiering it as a new one is £28. Now I just want to double check the handbrake tomorrow.

As I hear you are handy with a spray gun my advice to you would be paint the milenco covers, mine stained and then started to break down from uv degradation.

Washed the roof, then the whole van. Amazing the crap that gathers on the roof in a few months

Any chance of a photo as I'm currently open to ideas for a better organised garage. i bought a set of the folding hooks from IKEA that were mentioned in a previous post but haven't fitted them yet.

Just had a Propex 2000 heater fitted to the RV, Cheers Ally, who put me on to it and Simon, who fitted it. It doesn't heat as well as the US furnace heater, but, then again, I hope to be able to leave it on overnight and not wake to flat batteries and an empty gas tank...👍😁

You should find it will, maybe not as fast to heat up as the furnace but it will get there and be more than enough.

My only gripe with the Propex was that it let the temperature drop to much before kicking back on again.

Just cleaned the fridge shelves. Over the years they have oxidised and looked chalky. I tried everything to no avail and decided to buy a new set of shelves until I was quoted £50 per shelf. I got a wire brush attachment on my drill and spent a couple of hours. Not like new but turned out well

Just to add 're the Propex heater in an RV. I'm quite pleased tbh as I does what I wanted and I'm looking forward to a warm night's sleep without being woken by the oem furnace heater cycling on and off and waking up with batteries that still have life in them and LPG left in the tank. It doesn't heat as fast as the oem heater, but having tested it this week on frosty nights, I just put the oem heater on for ten min and the Propex maintains the warmth very well. Very happy with it.

Replaced corroded steel at struts and chassis

 ·
Posted: 05.02.2020  ·  #1233
8 hours later, 1 roll of .9mm mig wire, and half a sheet of 3mm steel and the Duke is rebuilt underneath with rotten corroded steel removed. Ready for CVRT on Saturday. Can't understand how it passed last February in the state it was in at the chassis in spots. We picked it up last August and during December I threw it up on the lift to spray schutz underneath, and I nearly got sick!
Steering column gaiter was so badly worn on one side, the grease ran down the pump! As a member of Irish Engineering Institute I'm dissapointed that some boy passed the Duke last February 2019! The poor auld fella that we bought it from was never aware of the state it was in and you don't want to know what I pulled out of the chassis channels and bulkhead that was used to fill gaps!! Jesus wept!
Anyway, that's my rant over, all sorted now, comfort knowing there is solid steel down there and welded solid for a good many years to come,

Spent the last few days spraying all the handles, knobs and moving parts we can find on the v.w. sliding door as it often won't unlock first time.
We're assuming that getting it fixed professionally will cost a bomb!
It happened a year or so ago and that worked but doesn't seem to be this time...ho hum.

Replaced the engine thermostat, engine has been running cold since we got it. It got up to operating temperature for the first 😁

It then carried on very very slowly, then temperature warning light came on 😠

Out of the ashpan and into the fire. 😂

All part of restoring a classic, probably the fan temp sensor.

While not exactly doing something for it, I’m bringing it for a trip tomorrow. Just for the night. It’s been so hectic that I haven’t been away this year, only to Ferrybank, which hardly counts as it’s so close. The van needs a run, and I need a rest. I have no idea where I’ll head for, but at least then, I can’t get lost😂😂

You'll want to find some shelter from the wind, it's been gusting strong here in the Hook all day and gone up into the mid 50mph after dark, same forecast for tomorrow into Sunday morning , due to drop right down by teatime
