Gave it a nice new set of front brake pads. Fiat were looking £104 just for the pads. I paid £29 for them and my mechanic put them on for £20. It needs a good polish and wheels painted, something for the next few weeks

Nice job
What did you use

The preparation is a long story but mostly Autoglym products although currently using Meguires NXT paste as the Wax in the final stages.

Sealed with autoglym EGP. Both are polymer so shine isn't as deep as it could be with carnuba but is more durable in our climate.

Fixed a rear marker light; the front part had stopped working.

Had a couple of little marker lights which showed white front and rear but was able to swap out the red lens.

I have a couple of amber marker lights which consist of four tiny led's each but on a rear light two of the lights had failed so I screwed a new one on.

At 48 mph cruising altitude I need all the help I can get.

Airing the MHsleeping bags, revarnished the wooden table top ( previous owners made a smaller table).

Today will attempt again to take down very grey net curtains, (must be up since MH new , 9 years)
Tried before and gave up when I bought lovely French style cafe nets) .
We have a Burstner A-class, but everything around window seems fixed and fiddly hooks.

Googled it and I am not the only one who thinks it is difficult. Thinking Hymer probably similar.

Great job.
Our van came with a similar thing installed. It is also handy for rinsing sand off before going into the van.

I washed ours last night. The moss & algae was turning it a nice shade of green, but I prefer the original beige colour...

Considering I only wash ours 1-2 times a year in it's current situation, it looks beautiful now!

(Beauty in the eye of the beholder)...

Replaced a faulty switch which controlled my two reversing camera screens. Ordered one replacement screen as it seems to have give up the ghost.

Not sure how to do the quote thing (handy if someone explained?)

Yes Rambler I have two reversing cameras, one up high where you would usually have one covering the bike rack and immediately behind and another camera in a number plate holder which I find much more useful as it looks straight back and covers that ground area you can’t see when the bikes with the cover on partially block the view of the high mounted camera and a child might move right behind you when you are reversing.

The low mounted straight back facing camera spots those cars that like to hide behind you that you can’t see through the rear window (especially with bikes on) and are just out of range of the high camera and might pop out to overtake as you are about to overtake something yourself on the motorway.

Neither camera is linked to the reversing lights so can be manually toggled on or off at any time. I tend to leave the top camera off unless reversing and keep the low one on as an extra rear view mirror. I would miss it far more than the top mounted camera.

Got you. I’m going to install one soon myself. I think I’ll put it at the number plate position.

I have twin side by side fitted above the gutter rail , one is aimed down onto the ball hitch, in such a way that allows me to reverse right up to the trailer or wall or kerb. The other one looks back to view the trailer or the road behind , they work on single display selection 1st or 2 nd screens.

I have also fitted a twin camera just above the high brake light (easy access for wires)
one points down for reversing (advantage of this is that you can also see all of the back of the van) and the other is a full time rear view camera. The mirror mounted screen is ideal for this and the model I invested in will not only allow automatic switch over but also with a press of a button on the screen I can activate either.

Monday evening last week I finally got round to replacing one of the rooflights that had a broken mechanism since before we bought the van last year, the slider for the black out blind was also damaged by the kids.

The old one was a Remis 400x400 and I got what I thought was the same, thinking I could do a straight swap of the mechanism but the design seems to have been significantly updated, hopefully an improved design rather than just cost reduction. It was a surprisingly quick and straightforward job.

The inner panel is held on by 6 ball and socket type joints (the socket is a compliant material) and it's just a case of prying it off. Remove the screws inside the van and in this case the brackets too because the new one used a different type. Up on top then and using a paint scraper to break the mastic seal and remove the old unit.

The longest job comes next, cleaning up the old mastic and preparing the surface to get the best possible seal with the new unit, I removed as much as possible with the paint scraper and finished the job off with IPA wipes and elbow grease.

The new unit had two parallel ribs running all around the sealing face. I took that as a cue to apply a thick bead of non setting mastic between them to get the best possible squish without all of the mastic oozing out beyond the edge of the unit or indeed into the cutout in the roof.

Once that was done, I placed the unit into the roof cutout and squished it down, then back into the van. There were 6 brackets. I started on one of the sides with two brackets and got one of the brackets fitted but only loosely hand tightened. Next I did the bracket diagonally opposite, back to the second bracket on the first side and the second bracket on the second side. Then the two remaining brackets, one each on the third and fourth side. With them all loosely hand tightened, I worked through them in the same order, tightening a little bit more each time until they were firmly tightened. This was to ensure an even seal all around.

Then it was just a case of popping on the inner panel with the fly screen and blackout blind and testing the mechanism. I did a quick cleanup of the excess mastic up top and I left the van to stand in the rain until Friday when I brought it for its DOE test and no obvious leaks were seen.

Unfortunately, despite my best intentions, I forgot to take pictures.

Wondered about my solar, it didnt seeem to be performing too well. It wouldn't go higher than 3.7amp input, so thats basically one 100 watt panel, right?

I disconnected them and put one on at a time, 3.7'ish, cloudy and sunny. So both were working, connected them back up and hey presto!! 9amps input, must be a dirty or dodgy connection, I'll investigate further next week.

P.S I have to run loads of things to get that input.

(I must dust the controller)
