I'm asking a lot of questions in the technical section so to balance things up thought I'd contribute a lovely spot in Carrigaholt in Clare I used last Sunday. It's the yellow marked spot in this Google sat view. Flat green grass right on the water edge, there were a few campers/cars parked up and locals seem quite happy about it... no problem taking a pint over to it and dropping the glass back later:
There is also a natural "playground" in the trees marked with the brown circle with swings from branches and a thick fisherman's rope threaded through them for climbing.
