That should take the pressure off some of the other parking spots

'Small increase in our basic fees' ?
I'm guessing up an extra 3 euro to 15 without ehu? Still a good deal for the location.

You forget, he's just a poor farmer who happened to have a seafront field. After all, look at the outlays he had?!

Tap - black hole - ........... Errr grass?

Some sort of mythical legend as it happens, according to some motorhome owners.

Others however, see it as it is.

Now... Wish I had a sea front field.

Why would it have ehu? Is it a campsite? :)

Beside the main field there's a separate fenced off 'stone chippings' section with ehu points. Room for about 12-16 vans at a guess. We've used it once late in the season when we wanted the fan heater on.

There's only 15 to 20 places with EHU, the field takes about 160 van's

I heard some people used to leave their van in the field all week just to guarantee they’d be there at the weekend, as it was so cheap it was worth it.
Maybe not any more.

"€15

Complaints on FB now theres a shocker :)

I have mixed views on the place but @€15 per day with services for a van full of people on an aires that allows camping behaviour sounds ok ! hard to please some people
We will be back mid week .

Sounds grand to me. Cheap enough.

It is only a field though, and if numbers are down then motorhome owners are voting with their feet.

Maybe he is happy to operate below capacity. I'd imagine its been a complete shitshow there for the last few years turning people away constantly.

The people complaining about €15 were probably slow to hand over €10, I'm sure it gets tiring.

We spent a couple of nights there last week. Still a good deal really, properly spaced parking markers, good basic facilities (although a free waste bin would be nice) and a great spot for beach, village and a variety of walks.
Dick's still as amiable as ever...still claiming to be a struggling poor farmer 😂
Think about it... basic supply and demand economiccs. During one stay in great weather last year the camp was full to capacity, he had to close the main gate and there was a queue of five campers waiting for a space.
Be honest, if you owned the field, what would you do in that situation? Up the price and ease demand slightly. 👍

Yep ... that's how it works in the real world supply and demand , check out the cost of parking @DUB airpot at the moment as an example .... if you think Dick is funny this will have you splitting your sides !

I have never been to Ardmore Seaview Motorhome Park but this is the way i see it, regardless of the rich farmer poor farmer theme anyone who turns part of their property into a business venture is entitled to charge for the service provided.
How many times have we had to listen to the cry that motorhomers do not require caravan site facilities and therefore should not be expected to pay the extortionate fees some of these sites charge.
Here is a man who has made a service available at less than half the price of many caravan sites and what is the cry? 15 euro is to expensive.
Yes i am aware that it is a field but it has services and overheads , i have witnessed Motorhomers parking in many worse places but maybe the fact that they were free could have had some factor on those occasions.
Why not let the people that are willing to pay 15 euro get on with using it, the others keep looking for the free spots and in many cases getting Motorhomers a bad reputation.
Those that pay nothing should not really be surprised when they end up with nothing.

I think you may have missed the point.
" Up the price and ease demand slightly. This is Ireland, up the price to make more money from your customers.

Aside from that, €15 is not an outlandish sum to park your camper in a field in relative safety, with the services of Fresh,Gray and black water. and little chance of being disturbed in the night with doughnut doing Gobs***s.

I wounder what the emissions are like with a field of campers instead of cow's maybe the Green Party could encourage Farmers to reduce the heard and increase the parking? and if you look at this, you wonder why more are not going the camper route.
These are the results from the Teagasc National Farm Survey For 2019,
The average suckler farmer made €116 per acre.
Other beef rearing farms made €156 per acre.
Dairy farmers made €456 per acre
Tillage farmers made €228 per acre.
Sheep farmers made €125 per acre.

Had a look at Dick's Field today, more or less full. The €15 is just about OKish for what you get, but I would expect it to include refuse disposal.
What really got me thought is the extra €5 if you happen to bring a car.
Mrs B sometimes follows me in her car if going somewhere not too far from home.
At €20 p/n guess where we won't be doing if she wants the independence of having her own car with her.
