Due to behaviour and annoyance of local residents and a gang of unruly motorhomers, Fahan have now fenced off the parking area and a sign stating €20/night to stay. No services, nothing….. effectively meaning that it is now out of bounds. A beautiful stop destroyed by morons.
I do despair with certain sectors of the motorhoming community, I really do.

They were already in place for MHCC members, but since that others had ruined it. Hopefully still available now.

I'd happily pay €20 with services, it's a hell of a spot.

We have been using that location for many years but in recent times it was being abused badly by people who should have known better.
If this keeps those idiots out then I will continue to use it and will happily pay the fee to have it controlled.

If services are put in, water/cassette emptying I’d gladly pay too, but I have the feeling this is happening to effectively tell us we are not wanted here anymore and by adding the gates/signage it will be the deterrent required to keep us away.
Be happy to be proved wrong.

That could well prove to be correct but I also hope you may be wrong Jon.
When motorhomers have nowhere that they can park at for free or reduced rates they can then go and pay site fees for purpose built locations.
It will be too late then to whinge about the places they used to have but lost.
Is there any merit in someone from Motorhome Craic contacting this phone number to see just what their future ideas are for that location?

Is €20 p/n becoming the new normal in Ireland.
We're touring Spain at the moment and €9 > €12 is the normal for Motorhome Parks offering toilet/shower facilities included.
If not included EHU is generally a €3 or €4 optional extra.
All also have a sliding scale of reduction in price, to as little as €7 p/n for long staying customers.

I would hope €20 is not the normal price for Aires in Ireland as it would be off putting for many continental visitors who are used to cheaper prices. But I do believe that free can be abused. It would be nice to find a middle ground.

I will give one example of an incident that I witnessed at Fahan during the Covid outbreak when everyone was being asked to isolate and not get into gatherings.
We went there in our motorhome just the two of us but very quickly became aware of a group of approx 7 motorhomes formed in a group.
These were not Craicers but I do believe they did form part of another group.
They had a fire pit going and partied late into the night, they were frequenting each others motorhomes during the Saturday and Sunday and left before us on the Sunday.
A bomb site would be my best description, rubbish and burnt sticks also a gathering of stones to form the fire pit.
Now my question, why is there a gate there now?

Is it DCC land I wonder, or private. I'm sure the fencing is an eyesore too. It has always been a facility 'done on the cheap' by the marina owner but charging full whack(I know I've kept boat there for over 10 years). Is planning permission needed to fence off an area for motorhome parking I wonder? Also if there is a charge being levied does the owner not have to or ideally some sort of service for the €20?

Private land can be regulated to suit the owner,we do not have any privileges over that.
