Satellite experts?

At Treegrove Kilkenny, I tried my portable Sat dish for the first time, Dave seen me and had to get his out which is bigger, what is he trying to prove?

Anyhow, I have a sat finder APP on my phone and Dave had a compass, BOTH of them pointed in the same direction but we couldn't get a signal.

Ken (Taylor) came in with his self seeking Dish and it was completely different direction than ours, moved ours around and within 10 seconds had a signal.

So what were we doing wrong?

I had the sat finder set to Astra 28.25

You were reading the compass wrong is the simplest answer, it's what I did when I tried mine for the first few times.

Yeah if we were using the compass wrong, how was the sat finder showing the same? I agree with Dave :alien:

Just from our own personal experience so cant say whos doing what right or wrong. Often while trying to use a compass inside a motorhome it will not work properly due to magnetic interference. I find we need at times to stand clear in an open space to get a true reading, normally now we just set the elevation and can spin the dish round in approx direction until the sat finder screams a constant tone at us :D

The compass and Sat finder (android app) were both outside the Motorhome.

The APP seems to be excellent and was very accurate and great at aligning the dish, just aligned it in the wrong direction o.O

The Astra satellites have been moved but I still thought that they were in the same general direction

Tried this again at the weekend, found the satellite then tried the APP, it was in a different place, so it seems to APP is at fault.
