Ford and the Erwin Hymer Group have announced that the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom will be the base vehicle for conversion to campervans and coachbuilt motorhomes by Hymer Group brands.

And a new strategic partnership between the two manufacturing giants will also look into the future product development of leisure vehicles, such as electrification, digitisation and connectivity, as well as the integration of driver assistance systems.

From urban campervans to large motorhomes

The new supply agreement includes panel van and skeletal chassis cab Ford Transit models, as well as Ford Transit Custom kombi vans, for conversion by Erwin Hymer Group brands into campervans and coachbuilt motorhomes.....

Is the transit narrower than the Ducato? I must go check. The Ducato core design goes back to 2007 and is feckin' ancient in automotive design terms. It seems Ford realised the volume that's the EU motorhome market.

Will Ford be able to supply them? Wasn't there someone on here saying that the lead time on a new Transit is something like 11 months?

I never liked the new Transit and I've heard plenty of horror stories on reliability. Then again, I hear them on every make/model........

Has it started rusting yet or is that in the second six months?

With 170hp it would rush everywhere if you let it lol

That's one advantage of the Transit, plenty power as standard when compared to the standard fit Ducato. Most Transit Campers I've seen have been on the 170PS stove while 130/140PS seems standard on Ducatos.

For some years now, Hymer has been owned by the American group Thor.
It seems natural to me that Americans push for Ford.
As for reliability, just remember the dying of pistons, which was never recognized by Ford.

Thousands of euros (or pounds) went out of the owners' wallets.
