We all took part in a survey some time ago that Donegal Co.council ran. At that time we all made submissions relating to our thoughts regarding provision for motorhome stops and facilities.
It may be bearing some fruit, it looks like the council are going to adopt a pro-active approach and I've asked our local representative if we could be included in any submissions and offer constructive input in any decisions.... we shall see.

The sense of urgency is encouraging, once it's framed as them stealing a march on other counties, the other counties become the enemy rather than motorhomists.

Theres already an app for that 😐 all welcome stuff but another council spending money on a study that isn't needed.

They seem to love wasting money, Antrim is doing it atm, even though I have gave them all the information they need.

I agree with Ally who would bother to look at one Council’s webpage to find the information that is already available country wide. I would be surprised if any Dutch, German,French, British person would know where to find the page and why would they bother for just one county.

They don’t listen.
My local councillor who actually listens tried to have them look at the simple setup at my place to help them understand the differences between motorhomes and caravans & what is required….. no joy.
Paid mega bucks to some pen pushing tw*t to tell them what’s ‘not needed’…..
It’s just lost on them, unbelievable waste of public money…. but they won’t worry, it’s someone else’s money they’re spending and no matter how much a f**k up they make, they’ll keep their jobs…. Those folk don’t exist in the real world.

I suppose we should be grateful that a council is at least trying to do something to increase places to stay however I would be a bit concerned about the proposed code of conduct where they say campers should plan ahead and where possible book ahead. I know everyone is different but to me one of the attractions of motorhoming is not planning or booking ahead. What do others think?
I was interested to see that Lorcan Roarty from Wild Atlantic Camp was speaking at this event. We stayed there a few times Inc with other family members glamping while we were in the motorhome. There is no doubt he has developed a fairly impressive facility however when we looked on the website recently the price per night for a motor home pitch for ourselves and 2 granddaughters would be 45 euros _ a bit pricey!

That €40+ seems to be the going rate in Donegal.
Like you Billy we tend to go ‘on a whim’ and now plan going to places not frequented as much as the popular stops….. and actually prefer that type of stopover.

Just home after four months of touring in Spain, Portugal, and France. Not once did we book ahead and never had a fixed plan.
Out overnights ranged from free in motorhome parking areas to €18 (inc. ehu) in campsites.
Out 'best value' place was HERE @ €12 p/n (inc ehu) reducing to €8 for long stays

It’s a different world Colin, it makes travelling a pleasure when in Europe. The powers that be here in this country just ‘don’t get it’.

While Donegal County Council issue a report on tourism in the county that’s paid for by someone else they bite off the hand that tries to help. You couldn’t make this s**t up, you really couldn’t.
