Fuel prices rising, gas going through the roof (not literally)...

I have just got prices to LPG my petrol car, 3.2 V6 Petrol (used for towing).... it won't run on E10 so will have to use E5 Super Unleaded next year, 12pence a litre more at current prices.

Would love to convert, but where are LPG prices going to end up? With the drive to get old vehicles off the road, its maybe not worth converting to LPG, or is it - hmmm

Receipt says 8.72 L , that was cheap, it's a pity the bottle's are so expensive

One of those refillable cylinders came with our Motorhome. I took it out because there is very few places to fill it. If prices keep going up, it might go back in.

.49p thats cheap ,.6 kg cylinder holds just over 11 litres , Just filled my 2 up round the corner from me Cheshire Gas so not a garage but a gas supplier @.70p a litre , its gone up recently from .58p a litre which has been the price for most of this year.

Something to consider with Gaslow or refillable bottles. James at Anchorpoint point was telling me about one of his customers who was struggling to get much lpg into her tanks and james said it was probably because the tanks were full of butane as the propane element of the lpg had all been used and being cold the lpg (mainly butane) wouldn’t work he suggested putting hot water bottles around canisters and then burning all the lpg off and then refilling the canisters. Apparently in Spain the mix ratio of butane to propane in lpg is more butane than propane compared to Irish lpg which has more propane.

As I tend to only fill up lpg in Spain and Portugal James suggested that I use all the lpg and then fill up with lpg here.

I understand what he’s talking about but I don’t think I have explained it very well.

Well explained alright, but I would have thought, driving around would give it a good shake up and mix it , but I'm no expert either

I believe that what James was saying that in colder climates the propane will get used up first leaving mainly butane which won’t work efficiently due to the cold. And when the lpg won’t work an assumption would be that you have run out but when you go to fill you can only get a few litres in because the bottles are pretty full with mainly useless butane. Hence use it all even if has to be on a warm day put the heating on open your windows burn off the less desirable high ratio of butane to propane mix and start again with a better mix in the lpg.

Its the cold temperature is the problem, and what do people do when there is cheep fuel available, fill up before you head home, the real answer might be, to leave this Country with your tank low, and return the same, especially if you're returning Feb/March.

Here's a useful link which explains it all https://www.mylpg.eu/useful/lpg-mixture/

Wow some differences between Ireland and Spain. I never realised how much until I read that link.
Thank you

When you look at the list Jami, Portugal is the place to fill before you leave and then only get enough to get back to the UK or Ireland,

Yes I see that Portugal has a much higher propane ratio. Not planning on heading into the uk especially GB if I can help it.

Has anyone ever ran out of gas and not been able to get a fill. In all my years I've never ran out completely even being away for 7 weeks and in winter. I had thought about refillable bottles but I really think I dont need them. Again like diesel and motorway tolls I just treat it as a necessary expense

I used a complete bottle 13kg in about 5 days while doing the Christmas markets in the Alsace a few years ago. Luckily it was a French bottle which I was able to exchange for a full one.
If I had had a pair of Irish bottles I would have been snookered.
I now have a Gaslow system so no worries 😊

When we go skiing we carry 2x13kg propane and 1x 6kg and it does us. It is supplemented by time on electric. We have never had to use the 6kg one. If I was away longer I woukld just buy a French tank

I have two French bottles, one is empty, so light enough to carry as a spare, if anyone wants to borrow one then please get in touch, and we can arrange something about collection.

I had an issue with the gas regulator a few years ago, and was using a 11 kg cylinder in 5 days, in the summer 😳. I was able to purchase a13 kg cylinder, including the cylinder, for €25. Way cheaper than just the exchange one here. Therefore I wouldn’t be worried about running out of gas at all.
