Importing campervan from the UK

Just wondering if anyone out there has knowledge about importing a campervan from the UK. VRT in Ireland is based on the market value of the vehicle and I think it is 13.3%. What I am really unsure of is do I have to pay the VAT in the UK as well as paying the VRT at home? Do I have to pay VAT at home too? Has anyone gone through this process recently?

Yes you will have to pay VAT, VRT and Duty, I believe you would be far better off buying on the continent.

As it’s new if you buy it in GB you can try to get it VAT free so you only have to pay at point of import, if you buy in NI then you will only have to pay the VAT in NI then VRT on ROI. If I remember right Donaghys are compass dealers

Thanks for all the information, very helpful... I agree I think it might be more straightforward and less expensive to buy in Europe rather than the UK. Can anyone suggest a good German dealership? I am looking for something with an end lounge/ double bed and 4 seatbelts. Has anyone any thoughts on the Carado CV601?
