I know with Dolmens and Stuart’s they have a flat rate for MH if you also have a car but I’m thinking of not bothering with a car as I hardly use it. Does anyone have a MH insured without a second vehicle and if so what is the annual cost of insurance?

Thanks guys Dolmen is €856 without a car €350 with a car. Still to contact Stuart’s but I see a redundant car will be gone soon.

If you have your car insured with one company and your MH with another, and you have a claim does it affect the other policy too?

Not sure of your circumstances but if you were a named driver on a spouses/partner's policy you can get the camper policy for the same price as if you have your own car.

Quick update, Stuart’s will not insure without a primary vehicle. The would however accept my scooter being the primary vehicle and it would be €335 to insure the MH with 2 names drivers €400 with open drive. Discounts available if you are a member of IMHC and others. But this only covers you for 31 days abroad for longer they have to go back to aviva each time and depends on how long away and where. So that doesn’t work for me.
Dolmens was €350 with unlimited mileage and unlimited travel abroad but without a primary vehicle it is €856 again there are discounts if you belong to certain MH organisations.
Might ring dolmens back and see if they would accept the scooter as the primary vehicle.

So do Stuarts only cover 31 days abroad? i didn't know this, not that it would effect me. And is that 31 days per single trip or annual, or both?

As standard I think it is 31 days per trip and you travel more times per year.

I'm with Stuarts for several years and that's the first I've heard of 31 days. I'll have to look up my policy, if I can find it. Maybe it's something new for new policies.

No limit with Dolman abroad even if you don’t have a car.

It’s only what one person said over the phone I cannot guarantee that the person knew what they were talking about.

I'm in a similar boat. Or should that be van...

I'm applying for insurance for vw campervan but don't have a car. Dolman quoted me 850€ with 75€ discount if I choose 500€ excess. Stuarts said no. I'll keep looking but I might have to swallow it. Grrr.

On a positive note, it's only the price of a hotel room once a month. Or a cup of coffee a day.
