It's a long while since we visited Dungarvan, I'd appreciate up-to-date advice on safe overnight parking in or near the town.
I see the harbour on the app, but I've also seen mention of the sports centre? Advice appreciated, plus best route in. Thanks in advance.

We stayed the night before last at the sports center with two other motorhomes, no problem. there was a couple Motorhomes parked further in including a caravan next to the Golf coarse. the places at the lookout were all gone including the bus bays.

Many thanks for the update, would it be worth checking out the Lookout on arrival, then moving on to the sports centre if need be? Btw, I know the sports centre would be easy to find, is the Lookout equally easy?

Plenty of parking over next to Abbeyside church also, the lookout and by the sports centre can get very busy, nice and quiet by Abbeyside church.

The residents in the past have complained about parking on the Abbey side. It's better to park at the other locations

I live in Abbeyside and I’m not aware of any neighbours complaining about parking. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen - I just haven’t heard it before. What I have seen over the last few weeks is lots of motorhomes in Abbeyside and Dungarvan over the last few weeks and it’s great to see! Dungarvan is a welcoming town and we love to see people coming to visit! I agree with earlier comments, the Lookout is definitely a great spot with amazing sea views! Sports Centre is very close by and within a 10 min walk to town and still lovely sea views. There are some spaces down by the church in Abbeyside - and very few houses nearby so I can’t imagine any would be complaining!

I'm trying to work out where it is (from recent visit memory)
Is it down near the Sports Centre?
Wherever it is, it will be very much appreciated....no more circling around in a holding pattern looking for a space!

That's exactly the spot, take a closer look at the church behind the digger.

New motorhome parking and services bay more or less ready to go.
Bye-Laws have been sorted to be adopted at the next municipal meeting.
No 'camping' activity
48-hour stay
Pay & Display
€10 per 24 hours, with the option to reduce on off season
Reserved area for motorhomes, no cars or other category of vehicle allowed in the bays
plus the usual parking within the lines etc.

The original plan, based on the Cobh layout (2m between bays) was for 11 but the local fire officer requested 3m separation so there are now only 9.
Plus the services bay.

I have been on Aires in the Continent where there would be another Motorhome squeezed in that 3m separation, are they putting Bollards or something between the bays? Still very good news though, I commend all concerned with providing the facility

We did try and explain to the F.O. the reason for the 2m gap was to create a decent separation but one just not wide enough to allow a 'latecomer to squeeze in resulting in a totally insufficient and unsafe separation, but unfortunately, he didn't get the idea and insisted on the 3m separation.
The area is continuous tarmac and I've no idea how they plan to stop infilling.

Bye-Laws passed 👍😁
Those of us who like peace and quiet will be delighted they include a ban on onboard and free standing generations.
They also include provision to allow for charge reduction, from the standard €10, in the low season.

While not absolutely "fool proof" I like the way they implemented it in Castletownbere, where it's only painted in yellow and very easy to figure out. Gives a nice bit of separation between campers where you don't smush all of them together. Sure, not as busy as Dungarvan but works.

In fairness the FO's are sh1t scared since the fire tragedy in the travellers site in Carrickmines a few years ago.
However there is a big difference between a bunch of sited portacabin type homes nearly touching each other and a row of motorhomes just parked up which some aren't taking into account.

Every space provided is appreciated, hopefully it won't be abused and if full we'll be driving on, thankyou to you all fighting for these provisions to be put in place for our benefit as I'm sure it's not a walk in the park 👏

Is there still Motorhome parking spaces adjacent to the bus parking up the road?
