3 Way Fridge Repair/Replace

We have a 3 way Electrolux fridge in an old, VW Caravelle based, campervan (1994) that is not working. We are looking to get it looked at with a view to repair or replacing the fridge.

Can anyone recommend someone to repair/replace and fit for us?

Based in Dublin but can travel.

Thanks

These old fridges IMHO are bomb proof. No moving parts and no computer electrickery
What are the symptoms before you go spending your beer money?
A common problem is that the contents in the cooling system solidify when not in use and the cure is to remove the fridge and turn it upside down for 24 hrs and then refit.
I’ve no experience of the above but it’s common

Maynooth motorhomes are probably the nearest repairer to you

Used to do that with the small Electrolux drug fridges in the nursing homes they it works ok in fact I have one in my rehearsal room for beer when we’re practicing and every now and again I need to turn it upside down they run on ammonia so it settles and needs a bit of help to get it going again🍺🥃🍺🤪😂👍

Thanks for that, Albert the Talbot.

The fridge is working on gas but not on either of the two electrical systems (battery or mains). I would not feel competent to remove the fridge given the complext looking electrical connections and, moreso, the gas.

Could be the thermocouple stopping it working on mains, I had to replace mine when I got the van, took one out of an old fridge, worked fine.
I don’t think the thermocouple is used when it’s running in battery though, but this is only powered when the engine is running.

If it’s working on gas then it will work on other 2.
Basically a heating element for 240v and 12 v which are cheap to replace.

Plenty of YouTube videos to give you the confidence to proceed

I have had problems with my fridge operating on gas down through the years. Because of its position in my 1998 Hymer Classic 544 I had to remove the fridge to get access to the burner a big job but with care it can be done in about two hours. The jet can be cleaned by blowing compressed air through it or the jets can be bought online for about €20 for three jets. Its easy enough to replace the jet. I also changed the gas supply to propane from butane as its cleaner burning and this had a beneficial effect. Ione thing I find is critical to gas operation is that the fridge must be as level as you can possibly make it in order for proper operation. While the fridge works perfectly now on gas and mains I find that the battery operation does not keep it cool while driving. The red light is on but the fridge doesnt cool. Any suggestions would be welcome

It’s possibly the 12 volt element that is gone. Easily checked with a meter, If you can get at it
