What are your thoughts on bracket placement. I bought extra brackets to fit the panel but undecided about where to fit. I have the 4 corner ones and 2 each side fitted onto the panel. Should I put the other 2 on front to help spoil the wind or one front and one back

Are you going to crane the Motorhome from the solar panels Tommy. 🤪
With the gaps/ gap in the front, will you get whistling when on the move from wind. If they are near the front of MH I’d be inclined to have as much as possible blocked at the front, if it’s near the back, mightn’t make any difference. Just my tuppance worth.

Just to be sure to be sure. I had thought of the 2 at the front. Either that or more brackets

I think the roof will come off before the panel does

I have two panels and put 4 corners and one on each long Side of each panel. So you are well covered with that setup 😀

I fitted 2 100w panels with sikaflex 252 with 4 corner brackets I used a special prep paint fitted the brackets left them loose
important it’s a good sunny day to warm up the roof using masking tape line up the panels mask around the outside of the brackets paint inside the masking tape and the brackets add the glue after a couple of hours tighten the screws job done

Just finished reading about someone whose solar panel blew off his roof today. He posted a photo of the roof which showed the feet still firmly fixed to the roof, but no panel. It is a closed Hymer Facebook group so I can’t link to it.
He states that he prepared the roof for adhesive and claims to have used the correct sikaflex although he does not state which number it was. The failure was between the plastic feet which he says had grooved surfaces to help adhesion and the metal surround of the panel.
Off out in the morning to check mine.

From the description it sounds like no one told him to screw the bloody panel to the brackets.🤔

That's what the little holes in the brackets are for.??????

I think if you lay too many brackets, apart from being overkill, you could interfere with the venting that is needed to dissipate heat so that the panels operate efficiently. I would have thought 4 brackets would be optimal. If it’s a large panel (> 250 W) perhaps 6.

You can get a wind deflector if you think it will be
getting to much air it can be stuck on in front of the solar panel.

I would have thought the front of the van would push the air up and there wouldn't be much pressure at low level on the roof???

Here's an option if you have, or can fit, roof bars

It looks very neat sprinter but a lack of air circulation behind PV panels can cause overheating and loss of output.
The following link is a bit technical but explains the effects CLICK

That is the front and back mount, there is no support at the sides they are fully open so no problem with cooling.

200watt with a dual mppt controller. The panel is very big and I'm worried about it catching the wind so intend to glue it down with extra oanel mounts

As a matter of interest, did you fit a fuse between the panel and the mppt and if so, what size fuse

I'm not fitting a fuse on the panel side but have ordered a 40 amp circuit breaker to fit between the battery and the mppt.

I've said this many times on here, I use RV61 from Soudal instead of Sikaflex. It is much easier worked with than Sikaflex, coming out smoother and softer from the tube. It has never let me down.
