The site advertises a caravan pitch for 30 euro per night but daughter has just stayed there two nights in her little trailer tent and was charged 45 euro per night . Thought this was a bit steep.

The site still says €30 for 2 people. We stayed last year using The ACSI card for €20 during the low season. Very nice site in a lovely location. But I won’t be paying €45.

If profiteering on the back of coronavirus is mainstream then many will venture further afield to Europe when normality resumes. I for one won’t support any Sites that jump on the back of a pandemic to profiteer from limited availability due to folk not being able to leave Ireland ..... in the long grass they will loose out.

I wonder is the same happening with European sites? Anyone know?

Yes we paid 75 euro for 2 nights, last September, I thought that was steep. Definitely 45 euros per night is far too much! It's not on my return list!

This type of business really piss me off they spend a lot of money on a fancy all the bells and whistles web site, and purposly neglect to put the thing that everyone wants to know first,on it at all.
THE PRICE LIST.

Looking at their website this looks like a simple case of,
shoddy business / fraud.

what exactly was she charged for.
did she have EHU.
was she advised at check in that their website was giving false information.
Are their prices posted and was this pointed out to them on check-in.

Our of curiosity I had a look on their website and €45 would be the rate for 5 people. The campsite charges €5 per extra person. Incidentally and for the sake of transparency we also charge €5 per extra person.

Strand As a matter of interest do you have many people sneaking in so they don't have to pay the extra €5. I had a holiday let and that was common. I didn't charge extra but it was only set up for 4 people

Just by going through their website booking form, you could easily rack up a big bill, depending on number of occupants and any extras.

We have had people who have booked their unit and forgotten the number of people in their family. But as all new arrivals are met when they enter the site unless the extras are hidden we see them. We base our capacity based on the number of people more so than the number of pitches.
We work out the total cost of overheads and divide it by number of people over a season to work out our per person charge, more people more use of showers (we don’t charge extra for showers) more water used, more rubbish, more wear and tare etc etc.

We can't have it every way, we say that there are facilities we don't need so would prefer not to have to pay for, but when they're split out as extras, that's a problem too.

From experience of booking directly with French sites, the extras (kids, pets, electric if needed) will lead to a ball park doubling of the base price for the pitch. Nothing unusual in Cong.

How much are the showers , the washing machine , dryers?
if a web site can publish how far it is from the local interests to enhance your stay, they could easily print a price list of all their services.

The interesting one on that list for me is the extra 5Euro charge for a large caravan, now I assume that will also include a large motorhome.
With sites allocated what is the difference between a small vehicle sitting on it and a large one?

that's my point put the blood price list of all your facilities up front so people can then decide whether anyone wants to use their campsite.
Its very simple publish the price list if you are not hoping to rip people off

The problem for 2020 is that demand will outstrip supply and some business owners will take advantage of that, what they need to take heed of is 2021 is a new year and people will decide where they will go then depending on how they were treated this year.
I am in that category as I will be campervaning to the southern tip of Ireland from next weekend for two weeks when I probably would have been further afield.

Just to clarify, they were two young ladies, one small trailer tent but on a caravan pitch with elec. The showers are extra being coin operated. They did not pre book or ask the price s on arrival . I was a bit cross that they did not query the price charged , they were too nice to complain, surely this was a mistaken overcharge. We have stayed at Cong many times through the years , friendly owners ,always a pleasant stay , wouldn't like this to blacken their reputation.

I would make a phone call and just and ask as that may have been a mistake,
Worth a phone call to ease your mind if nothing else,

Hope the two ladies are enjoying the trip

It sounds like they were overcharged. It’s a pity they didn’t query it. Did they get charged for the trailer on top of the camping fee? And then the electricity on top of that could bring it to €40 maybe? Still doesn’t come to €45.

Yes, for instance, Six Mile Water in Antrim and Jordanstown, both council run sites (my council area) have put their prices up to £30 per night and you must book two nights or more.

£30 per night in NI is unheard of.

Same. Quite a few others also, we will boycott any site that has put its prices up and using covid as an excuse.

Hi newbie here Daryl
If anyone is looking for camping nr Cong I have a small field in Shrule its a 15min drive to Cong , It has a tap but no toilets . Its a tight lane to get to so no over sized vehicles. Its not a business just a idea I had to use the land. Its still being sorted so the top corner has a pile of scrap i need to clear. No charge but donations to my project for Kyle (my Autistic Grandson) would be welcome but not essential.

I don't mind , but I am not sure where I stand legally or with local council, Some ppl say i have to be registered and have insurance. To me its having a few friends around for the craic and maybe earn afew bob for charity.
If you think it will be OK then i would be grateful if you can add it somewhere thanks.
