So which is best in a Motorhome?
First?.
Trucks carrying heavy loads require ‘high-end torque’ where torque force peaks at a higher RPM. This means the truck would be slower to accelerate, but the level of torque would allow it to handle the extra weight as RPM increased.
Torque is beneficial if you own a truck carrying heavy cargo. Having high torque force as the engine rotation (RPM) increases makes transporting heavy loads far easier and more efficient.

Second?.
Low-end torque, generally means that you have access to more engine power in lower gears. As a result, you won’t have to downshift the gears so often when accelerating from low speeds, and the drive will feel more relaxed.


Merc. 95 kW - 129 hp - Torque: 305 Nm at 1200 – 2400 Rpm
Fiat. 93 kW -125 hp - Torque : 300 Nm at 1800 RPM
Renault. 88 kW - 120 hp - Torque : 300 Nm at 1500 rpm

I have always taught my sprinter was great to drive, very good at getting up to speed from start or after roundabouts, etc, and at 2000rpm it on the open road it did well, the only thing lacking ( apart from the obvious ) was a 6th gear and cruise control.

My idea has always been that the first 4/5 gears are for driving and the last for cruising and economy.

My Ducato 2.8 JTD Power is 147 bhp but more importantly it has 310nm torque from 1500rpm > 3000rpm which makes for very relaxed driving. It pulls so well in 5th. (5 speed box) it's rearly necessary to change down on the average motorway gradients and will pull happily in 4th. on steep 6% gradients.
All the above in fully loaded condition, 3.85t
