Hi all,
Does anyone have a clear picture of what the situation will be.
I think that French may open non schengen borders 1/7.
Has anyone travelled recently to/from France or Spain?

I was just looking at the Camping-car Parks app and it shows pretty much zero occupancies for the majority of their Aires, so it looks like the French are still at home. Although there are a few with just a few spaces in use.

A friend of mine has just drove from the Algarve to Europe tunnel said police stopped him at each border and gave him a permission slip to travel through each country.
Said it may be different going the other way

My son is a maintenance technician on many of the big sites in Europe and has travelled from The Netherlands to France about three weeks ago but had paperwork for the Belgium border although not now needed. Last Sunday he left France and travelled to Saarburg in Germany, the site was full up, he is now in the Black Forrest site again full and leaves for Interlaken in Switzerland on Tuesday. He has experienced no travelling problems and everywhere is open. Masks are required in all shops. Sorry i can’t help with Spain as he only travels down as far as The Vendee. I hope this is of some help to you.

Well it's time to sh*t or get off the pot!

Left the booking with Stena hanging out there in the wind with the €100 deposit paid. I got the mail this morning, needs to be paid in full by tomorrow.

Still a fully flexible booking but I think it's time to accept reality and cancel.

Think you would be wise to cancel - not worth the risk/worry.

Ah I know that, but sometimes you just need to say something out loud to help accept it. I left it up until now as a little glimmer of hope because it didn't require any action on my part.

Can you defer it to a later date and then another or next year?
We were with Irish Ferries, we cancelled a few days before balance due but they took the price of flexible option(€30) off the €100 booking deposit.

I've been looking at next years prices and I'll be waiting until one of the sales. With Stena, I'll get the full refund as I booked the flexible fare.

Bit the bullet today, cancelled officially and got my €100 back. Spent a few hours today working my way west along the coast from Cobh to plan our summer holiday, I only got as far as Rosscarbery and I'm starting to think two weeks won't be enough because we've got to get as far as Sneem where friends of ours are booking a house around the same time.

Nothing is set in stone yet, just scoping out possible overnight stops, beaches and activities. Might skip Cobh and Kinsale as they're viable weekend trips.
We've done Dingle a few years back, Slay Head and Fungi so we'd skip on towards Kilorglin, maybe Cromane as a starting point, if we go from west to east.

"Going to Europe" I think a lot of people are going to find that Ireland is in fact in Europe also both bits of it.
Besides the ripoff prices of some in the Tourist industry, it is a great place to holiday, especially in a motorhome, caravan or tent , when you add the flight or ferry costs to your spending money, you can take the sting out of meals out. Contrary to what is the norm, you don't always have to spend two weeks in the same spot and if the weather gets bad you can go home in 5/6 hrs and start out, on another weekend when the forecast is good.
How many times did you here of people, who were stuck in bad weather just waiting fot the day of their flight or ferry home after spending a small fortune for the TWO weeks in the sun.
When our children were young we had travel box's and wet gear drunm's that were refilled and the cloths washed, then placed in the front room ready to go again, next week or the one after, all year around including Christmas, either heading out on the 23rd or 26th.

Stenaline /IF usually do a 15% off or kids free deals in run up to summer for UK sailings. Is there any chance of one in near future do you think this year...or is it not likely? I'm in two minds of trip to the Alps but UK ferry prices are way higher than usual.
