Trying to put a rough year on when this photo was taken. The only thing I have to go by is that there's a car in the pic. I'm hoping someone can identify the car and shed some light.....I grew up right beside this hospital....Our estate was decades away from being built when this pic was taken....Stiil lots of familiar landmarks and the tree lined avenue at the rear is where I took a shortcut to school every morning....Incredible for me to have found this pic. It's the National Rehabilitation Centre on Rochestown Avenue, Dunlaoghaire, Co, Dublin for anyone interested....

I have no idea when it was John, but I remember spending practically every spare hour there for 3 months, with a mate who had broken his back in 4 places. He was flat on his back for 5 full months. But he can walk now, so was worth it

Wow Dave!.....So glad to hear your friend recovered  ......We used to see some poor feckers being brought in by Irish Air Corps helicopters over the years. I remember a neighbour of ours ended up there too....He also made a good, if not slow recovery

Car 🤔?

When you zoom right in you can see a car at the rounded tower section of the building at the entrance....I have included a pretty bad cropped pic of it....I'm thinking the 1930's but hoping someone might know what model the car is...

John, if you use this mapping tool you can overlay and view maps that date right back to the mid 19th century right up to present day.
It would show the building, extensions when added, road features, etc and you may be able to approximate the date by the building design from the map. See https://geohive.maps.arcgis.co…7088a100c4 And choose the map layer from the legend on the right.

The car has the look od a Ford Prefect 1938 > 1948.
The production ran until 1953 but after 1948 the headlights were incorporated into the front wings.

The car looks like a Vauxhall Austin type of pre war or after as the same models were produced from 1937 up till 1950 stopping for wartime

Anyone who would be familiar with that car would....There is easily enough on view to determine what car it is. If that was a VW be it a Beetle, Fastback, Variant, Karmann Ghia etc I could tell from that pic which model.

This is frustrating me. I must be looking in the wrong area. Even with professional image software that image cannot be zoomned into, it might as well be built out of lego.

It really could be a Horse and cart from what I am seeing.

So what are you using to view? Being a self proclaimed Nerd, I need answers

The lenght of the bonnet and the shape of the grill leaned me towards the Austin 16 type, which were very popular for taxis etc. I think the time is about 1940 to 46 as everything was difficult to obtain ,petrol was like gold dust this could be why there are no other vehicles in the picture. Doctors and taxis had an allowance.

By the look of the grille and lights I’d say it’s an Armstrong Siddeley Whitley, manufactured post WW2 up to 1956.... or the earlier model 14 produced from 1936/42. They had a ‘Citrëon’ looking grille.
Armstrong Siddeley were best known for aircraft engines, they were progressively taken over by Bristol motor Co. and eventually by Rolls Royce who bought the company for rights to their aero engines and they dropped the automotive side of the business.

john, have suggestion for you, an "old " friend in the building game thinks that if you contacted the Royal Institute of Architect of Ireland they have records of all major building works on important buildings like that. Since their is some extensive works going on on the roof at the time of the photo.
