In light of weak membership in southern counties is there a case for organising a meet up some place south of Dublin and try and kick start social rallies similar to what northern members are enjoying? I am not trying to split the site but it is very hard for a person from Cork or Kerry to attend a meet in Ulster. I for one have not met another craic member in person.

Brilliant idea Pat!

Very hard for most of the ones in the North to organise anything in the South, although we have tried with our trips to Kildare and Wicklow. Hope this works out and ones further South start having the same Craic and friendships that have been created at the Craic meets.

That is exactly what is needed.
All it takes is for one member to announce they intend to be somewhere on a particular date and see who can join them.

It would be great to see small gatherings taking place across the country as it would give anyone who is planning to travel to an area a chance to arrange something to suit dates.

Perfect!

the only sites open at the moment are camac valley , parsons green in tipp. or battlebridge ( leitrim )we could go to howth also , there is snow in glenmacnass ( wicklow ) at the moment so thats out i think organizing a date this side of christmas would be difficult but new year or after is possible we went to battlebridge last new year and had a good time (pub on site ) ahhh

Thanks Guys for your encouragement.
I have to agree with Dave, Holding a meet before Christmas or even early in the new year is probably a non runner but it would be nice to have something planned for the new year. Dee yourself and the Gang would be more than welcome down here and we will be up Shanogue House to see ye all early next year.

Getting back to this post,

Is there anyone intrested in meeting up?

Anybody got any ideas regarding a venue etc.?

Where to go is the big question finding somewhere that is open and central and how many places are needed the glen of aherlow might be to far south and if there is a lot then Camac valley unless we are brave enough to wild camp early in the year :-)

Great idea for meet in South. How about Tree Grove in Kilkenny.

This site is officially closed from November to March but can be booked during that time for Clubs, Rallies etc. A phone call to the owner, Dan Stallard, on 086 8308845 will do the job.

Kilkenny is fairly central for Southerners and, although a longer drive for Northerners, is easy to get to as the roads from the north are very good.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Tree grove is a great spot. We use it quite often.
A rough guide for anyone traveling from the North is that it is about 3 hours from Banbridge.

I am fairly sure that there will be no shower facilities during winter as I remember Dan telling me he drains the system to prevent frost damage.

3 or 4 hours travel is ok with us, if we have plenty of notice of the dates Julie and myself will be there. Can't miss the first proper Southern meet :)

We drain the CL down also, but if anyone is coming we switch it back on as it won't freeze when being used, perhaps he does the same?

Wow, Where were ye guys for the last week or so? Were ye away having craic without us? I was feeling a little dejected for suggesting having a bit of craic down south, only for the Cork guys coming to my rescue. Anyway, Kilkenny sounds good it is fairly central for most and it would be great to have nation wide meet up and put faces to names. I have been looking at photos of northern meets and don't know anyone even do I probably spoke to many of ye on the forum. Is there a pub or function room attached or near the site as it would be needed with the cold weather this time of year? When would ye be up for it? Early in the new year??

Don't let that stop you, we are to far away for most of you for NYE. I am sure once you have one meet it will be followed by loads, so we will get a chance later to meet up with you lot.

sounds like a plan
all is needed really is a tap and an emptying point for the loo

another option would be a rugby club or similar, we use them for mccni meets, although there might be probs with insurance etc .

I phoned Dan Stallard, Three Grove Kilkenny today and he is happy to accommodate us as long as it is not a peak weekend eg.June Bank holiday etc. However he did say that his pluming is drained for the winter and there is no heating in his camper kitchen so we would have to bring some kind of heater. and he has tap water if the taps are not frozen.

So what do ye think?

we could organise 1 or 2 heaters im sure, i believe there is a tv room that would take about 20 people the campers kitchen is not fully enclosed
