DRLs with a mind

OK first of all let me say this is the second set I have fitted different type and difference control box system.

The DRLs have a mind of their own and will come on at odd times and sometimes stay on and sometimes if you say open a door go off. Today was the first time I have seen this one in that the van was locked up keys in a box in the house sun comes out and they came on. so it looks like any change in the 12v system including the solar switching to cab battery trips them over.

My thought is that I will look to switch the main feed wire from 12v live to 12v ignition live but I know from experience that that is going to be a real sod of a job. To complete info the 12v feed is taken (fused) direct from the battery as per instructions and not through any other connection with a new wire going under the van (protected with hose pipe)

There are some people out there with a lot more knowledge than me so suggestions (nice ones please I know you lot)
Would taking the main feed through the ignition live side work maybe with a relay to belay any problems with the Canbus system.
P.S. it took me days to get the wire through in the first place so really pee'd with this dam thing.

Thanks folks
David

I have Philips DRL's and the also come on randomly. My thinking is that at times the onboard engine battery charging from EHU & /or solar brings the engine battery up to the same voltage as if the alternator is running and the DRL control box thinks the engine has been started and turns the light on.
The small voltage drop when the courtesy light comes on when the door is open is maybe enough to turn them off or it could be coincidental as the charge to the engine battery automatically shuts off when it reached the fully charged voltage and the voltage starts to drop back.
On mine, there must be a small overlap between the voltage required to turn them on (the voltage at the end of the charging cycle) and the voltage at which they turn off (as the voltage drops when charging has stopped) as they only stay on a minute or less.

I'm still trying to work out what a DRL is.

Or simply ignore 'em. let others wonder what's going on, they fascinate my 2-year-old grandson.

If they're really wrecking your head you could fit a relay on the + supply side, activated by a feed from any circuit which becomes live when the ignition is 'on'

Thanks Colin
There does not seem any sense in it. They even sometimes just come on at night, think Billy must be pining and craving attention to hit the open road and not looking at a fence 1 inch from his bumper.
Well back to LaLa land for me.

I suppose they are designed with regular vehicles in mind which as a rule don't have onboard charging which brings the voltage up to the same as if the engine is running. That being said they are working as they should, ie they come on automatically when the required voltage is reached.
