Supplies from China?

Folks, please don’t get me wrong on this one And I’m in no way being political but I’m really struggling with it. I work as a chaplain in a large hospital and I know the importance of protection for those on the front line. What I am struggling with is how can a country where this virus originated and bringing countries to their needs financially have the neck to charge us North & South millions for vital supplies? I’m so glad we are working on this together as a country. I am also thankful for the pilots who are flying these supplies and many others getting them delivered and taking great risks to themselves. My simple mind tells me if I am responsible for something then I take action to make amends and not charge for my services. Am I wrong on this one as I’m really struggling with it?

I understand your thought process Jack. But do you really believe China should be held responsible for a disease that originated there. Ebola originated in Africa. If a new strain of that emerged, one to which we had zero immunity, would that be Africa’s fault. Most of the countries on the planet are scrambling to get their hands on these items. Do you really believe thousands of people should be working for nothing, to give them away to us. Frankly I’m disappointed that you feel like that.

Jack there will not be to many disagree with your thinking on this one,but China will not sell itself short either at this time of any other time.
As these supplies cannot be got anywhere else at this time then the choice is very limited.
Keep up your good work.👍

I don’t know what PPE has been ordered from China, however it has been stated that the order is for €225 million which is 15times the budget for the whole year for the HSE.

The aircraft which arrived into Dublin a few hours ago reportedly had in excess of €20 million worth on board. That sounds an awful amount of money for the amount that a passenger aircraft holds (about the same as two 40ft trailers).

I have seen face masks on the internet at £40 each which is apparently 20 times more than normal.

Is China getting their ‘arm in’ due to the world wide demand for PPE.

The same question occurred to me too. I expected this crisis , and China’s success in tackling it, might have spurned the central communist party to mandate the production of PPE and ventilators for global aid distribution. But China’s bǎo miànzi (saving face), probably means that will never happen. They’re too proud to admit their errors. I’ll bet calls will come for that type of thing eventually. I don’t mean to suggest there will be some kind of German style war reparations imposed on the Chinese, but by God their wet markets will be under global scrutiny and hopefully they will be pressurized to reform. This has been warned about for decades.

Italy is making a global plea for 300 doctors. China could have answered that call at the very least.

I don’t like where this is going. Will you all just listen to yourselves. Looking for someone to blame. Someone different. Not like us.

I don’t think you understand where I am coming from David. There will be all kinds of recriminations when this is over. Employers who forced their workers to come in unnecessarily could have blood on their hands. Spanish Nursing home employees who walked out and left their inhabitants to die. Trump pulling out of global pandemic funding initiatives. And China’s wet markets. This is a global problem for sure. If China can help the world, now is the time to do it.

You know what David, human nature is that a problem is always someone else's doing. We are all in sh it street at this minute in time and if we were all dead tomorrow wild nature would probably make a hell of a better job than the human race have done.
Let us all keep talking as there will not be a lot else to do over the next few weeks.

I really don’t want to get into this. Just want to say... China is helping. It’s providing millions of pieces of PPE, when nobody else can.

Will people ever cop on to the fact that money is not worth the paper it’s made from. Have we not learned anything from all this....... I guess not

Really have to agree with Daffy you cannot blame China for what is happening because COVID 19 originated there. They still have the virus, all be it is pretty much under control, so the fact they have sent supplies is contributing to helping. If I'm not wrong I think they have sent medical staff, ventilators, masks etc.to italy as well.

It seems to me that in this day and age, it is all too easy to conflate criticism of a country, who’s inhabitants may be of a different skin tone to you, with racism. That’s unfortunate and it stifles discussion. If the Coronavirus began in France, because of the way they run their markets, and I criticized that, could I be accused of racism? Of course not. We are all white Europeans, ourselves and the French. But if it’s China, then you can’t make the same criticism?

My critique has nothing to do with racism. I visited China back in 2000. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. The people, the food, the culture, the sprawling cities. They were building skyscrapers like you would never believe. If felt so safe. No crime. That’s what socialism achieves. But even back then, there were running jokes about the live markets, pathogens and global pandemics amongst us westerners.

I don’t blame China. That’s an entire country. I’m blaming how the food markets operate.

So what. Would you rather not have them.
I don’t see the Vatican or any other religion putting their hand in their pocket either.

We will all have much time on our hands over the coming weeks, let us all debate and stay friends.
None of us need enemies at this time, and this will maybe be our lifeline to sanity.

Folks, I’m not blaming anyone what I’m saying and struggling with is, if it originated with me I would not be charging to help with the problem? I would feel I have a responsibility. There is not a racist bone in my body as many of you know? Some folk may be disappointed with me that’s their problem. I have shared my heart and how I am struggling with it from a Christian perspective. My grandparents and parents taught me if the source originates with you then you make amends to deal with it and y;u do t charge for it. Dealing and helping with it by charging millions does not rest easy with me.

I think Guys it might be time to cool the Jets, I see merit on both arguments and I think our observations are tainted by the numerous videos going round at the moment. the big question is what is fact or fake. I suppose another big question is was this virus man made and spread for some evil reason. I don't know or do I expect anyone here on the site know for definite.
