Well Guys, anyone have a Renault Master hand book and can tell me the correct speck oil for my 2008 dci 150. I have googled it and am twice as confused as when I started, some say 5w-40 others say 5w-30, more say fully synthetic and others say semi synthetic, it is a mine field

Stupid question Pat but have you called a Renault dealership and see what they recommend? I tried a google search and comes up with what you've already said. If it were me I'd tend to go 5 - 40 fully synthetic.

Thanks Guys, 5w 40 fully Synthetic is what I have been using but when I saw the huge choice on Mick’s Garage it put me thinking that comparing quotes for a service means nothing unless you are talking about the same oil and filters as these items can differ hugely in price and quality.

Pat

When I had a turbo go on my first Ducato at 25,000 I took it to a Diesel engine specialist (Fiat could not work out what was wrong) anyway he told me that Fully synthetic was recommended as it was a delivery van that was designed to be hammered around everyday not sit for long spells. I have followed his advise now for the past 10 years or so and always used semi-synthetic as this is designed to leave a oil film on the bits inside the engine whereas fully synthetic will drain down quicker to the sump. Added bonus of course is that semi is usually cheaper than fully and lets be honest there can be very few of us who change the oil due to mileage reached.
So for me it is semi a double bonus costs less and helps stop internal rusting of the engine.

Nice one Martin  , Great find, even my tractors are covered on that.

Came across this post on another form and the results on Martin't site appears to recommend 5W 30 fully synthetic for the Renault Master 150 dci

I just thought I'd flag up the need to check on the oil used when having your base vehicle serviced. Modern diesel engines are now to Euro IV on emissions and increasingly fitted with an exhaust particulate filter to reduce smoke emissions. Having a filter appears to affect the specification of the engine oil to be used. I have a Renault Master base vehicle. It is the 150 dCi model with a particulate filter. The maintenance handbook stipulates engine oil to a C3 specification and SAE 5W30. Took it for servicing at my local Renault Trucks franchise who filled it with SAE 10W40 oil. It was only because I insisted on knowing what oil was used that the error came to light. Following a call to Renault technical, they replaced the recently filled oil and oil filter with the appropriate SAE 5W30 oil and a new filter.

The garage's "excuse" was that the VIN number simply told them what size engine was fitted, but not the extra features like the presence of the particulate filter. How prevelent this sort of problem is I don't know, but the new Sevel and Ford base vehicle engines may have a similar potential.

Richard.

Had a look at eurol.com and my mh (Ducato 2.8 JTD Power (2004 - 2007)) has a recommendation for have the brake fluid changed every 24 months.
Having been done a good few years ago, after I specifically asked) it's definitely overdue again
