Inverter help needed

Installing a Dometic 412 350w inverter and need some advice...

First question (sorry if it's obvious to everyone but me) but in the attached diagram it shows a fuse connected to the positive cable...do I need to attach one?

Second question:- the supplied cables are too short for where I want to install the inverter. Would it be detrimental to the operation of the inverter if I extended the length?

Thanks..

Yes, the fuse is important.
Keep the cable to the battery as short as possible, use the ones supplied, extend the 230v (mains) cable to the inverter.
A long mains cable is no problem, a long 12v cable is.
