Dometic RM6405L fridge PCB no longer available - replacement?

As per the title I have narrowed the intermittent problem I have been having with my electrolux/ dometic fridge to the main control board, or printed circuit board (PCB) as its known. Unfortunately this part is no longer available from Dometic and I've scoured the net looking for options.

I did come across a company in the UK that can repair these boards, but unfortunately mine is encased in epoxy so they cant do anything with it. He did mention that other Dometic PCB may be compatible with my fridge but researching the net has not turned up any results.

So, after pricing a replacement new fridge at €1100, I am stuck, i cant justify that kind of money on a fridge so I'm looking for help, does anyone know if there are any fixes for my own fridge, or anyone know of a good (working) second hand one for sale that will fit my opening of 525mm x 825mm?

The dreaded encased in epoxy fridge board :(

It's a new fridge only I'm afraid. You're the third craic'er that I know off to fall foul of this :(

Is it a fully automated fridge? Does it auto changeover 240/12/gas?

They only used that manufacturer for that period, the boards gave problems the board manufacturer in Spain? I think, was sacked and a replacement cannot be bought.

Daffysparks will have the full story.

Yes, I'm afraid it's the AES model, at this point I would rather replace it with a 'dumb' manual change over fridge

A bit of research into this option might be worthwhile

Who fixes the board once that happens?

I think I could build a circuit to change this over to a manual fridge?... ie, The user selects 12 volt/240 volt/gas. At the end of the day it’s either one of 2 electrical elements which can be switched via a 6 pole switch with 240volt on one side and 12v on the other or on gas via switch thru the thermocouple. The piezoelectric igniter if automatic could be sorted with a simple IC circuit which grounds out via the thermocouple which would be easy to do. The thermostat (if one is present) only operates on the electrical side of things.
At the end of the day these absorption fridges ran manually for decades before the manufacturers began adding crap electronics to them, same as the car makers of today also.

You sound like you know what you are doing, this seems to be a very common problem from what I gather. The guy at www.leisureelectronicrepair.com didn't think removing the epoxy from the existing board to fix it was an option, what do you think? It's very short sighted of Dometic to not have a replacement board available for these units, considering how troublesome they seemed to be

If it’s banjaxed anyway we could try dissolving the epoxy with peroxide and see what happens.
I’d build a circuit for it and leave it manual if push came to shove, however we sail for warmer climate next week and won’t return until March/April 2020.

I have been down this road, the boards were built in Canada for one year only. No replacement available. One of the main issues with this type of fridge is that there is only an on/ off switch and a temperature selector. That’s your lot. The resin used is the same as used in underground cable joints, and is very tough. My guess is that anything that would dissolve it would also remove the insulation from the cables, etc. Ask any Motorhome dealer, they have loads of these fridges out the back. All with variances of the same issue. Jon is a very clever fella and may well be able to construct a system for you. I made a workaround for my problem as I was heading to France. It done the job, but than another issue manifested itself. After exhaustive research, I bit the bullet and replaced the fridge freezer. The ones now at least have the option of manually selecting your power input, whereas the old 6 series AES didn’t which became the crux of the entire problem

Thanks for all the information folks, it's just confirmed what I suspected, the fridge is goosed and will need replacing. If anyone has an old manual selection fridge they want to sell, let me know
