If it is not the battery type what delivers the ignition spark. Is it a separate push button.

It's not the battery type... pushing down the number dial is supposed to activate the spark but nothing happens..

Then I think it is the type that has a battery in a pack behind the lift off front.
Try theses links.

The previous posts are correct I think? there is one single AA battery in the unit marked in red? Or is the unit hard wired into the vehicle 12v system? Usually little shutter rolls back to insert battery.

It must be hard wired then. Is there a loom going in with 2 wires ? Not the ones crossing to the gas valve, they’re for energising the igniter.....if so, probe with multimeter and should be 12v? If power is present then the box has a fault or it’s o/c at the gas valve switch .... if not then the supply voltage has a fault.
I can look at it for you, but I’m sort of ‘up North’ .... in Donegal...... so maybe a weekend up here and I’ll take a look and hopefully sort it if you cannot get it mended locally.

Is their cabling going from the control knob and where is it going to, did you have to unplug any connectors to take off the front cover.
can you post a photo showing the whole unit, like picture 1. but not as close? also the back of the front cover

I have a similar heater and the instructions say to turn the dial to setting 3 and then push down and hold the igniter and it fires up every time.
I dunno it may help you

At that sort of money for the first one I’d be going for this..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BBQ…9Qrckq6D9Q and adopting it to fit. Second one quite reasonable though.
But, I’d be establishing the problem first. May not be the igniter at all. Won’t be hard to diagnose and establish the problem and take it from there.

Yeah I was thinking the same. . It seems to operate on 12v might be worth checking power to the unit first.
P.s I am looking for a Manual,, I posted some links to the Trauma site with PDF files but I think they could be in the Subscribed section somewhere.. If you could have a look there for them Cheers.

I had one, they ain't noisy at all. Not sure you could change the thermostat so easy, there is a printed circuit board inside heater.

A basic room thermostat is only a switch that opens when temp, rise's and then closes when it drops. if you feed it with a separate live supply and then connect it to the heater side of the timer switch you should be able to use both the timer and the room stat separately.
