We have a 4 year old Frankia 790 and it has three skylights, all are noisy with wind when driving.Have you any suggestions as to how to fix this without ugly tape?

Are they fully closed and snug down?

There is a rubber seal that is prone to popping out of its slot when the skylight is opened. Afterwards when the skylight is closed the seal is misaligned allowing wind noise.

Can’t say I ever saw a rubber seal on any Van I ever owned, if seals fitted it is unlikely all three are miss aligned. Are you sure the noise is coming from all three and not someone else on the roof? I know I have roofbars on my Jeep and they make plenty noise at certain speeds.

It sounds like you have roof vents with permanent ventilation, I have them as well you can fit a foam seal around the inner slot to help with noise but the only permanent solution is to remove and refit the sealed type. I’m sure you can probably do something with tape but as you say it’s not that attractive on a new van

This happed to one of our centre skylights, had popped out slightly when skylight opened after being closed for a time. When I closed it it didn't mate right and caused a noise after a while. I now give all the seals a rub with a very light coat of silicon lube....keeps them nice and lubricated and haven't noticed them popping up since...always something to be done with a motorhome but that's the fun of it!

Ours had the same issue on our front vent, over the cab. The whistling (while driving) nearly drove me mad! 😅
We fitted a 'vent spoiler' which solved the problem.

During winter we have spongy square pads that fit in the roof openings to stop wind and keep the heat from escaping through the permanently vented roof vents. It's a semi-permanent solution, in that, we have to remove the fly screens to insert the pads, then reinstall the screens. Downside to this is extra condensation and a bit less light, so we've rarely used them.

If its a vented skylight its vented for a reason,

Personally I wouldn't block a vent as its needed for proper ventilation,

Blags spoiler would solve the wind noise

Safe travels 👍🏻

I had a similar problem ,so I went to the local car breakers and got a rubber seal from around a boot. I got a small section one, off a small car and had no further problems.

Skylight flyscreen unhinged

 ·
Posted: 16.12.2019  ·  #12
I decided to jump into this thread rather than start a new one. But my skylight internal fly screen has damaged hinge mechanisms. There should be small plastic tabs that latch in to the skylight internal frame but they have all broken off. You would pop down the fly screen to open the vent, and pop it back up afterward etc. I can’t think of any easy way to repair this. For now I have to use ugly duct tape to act as a hinge and hold the screen to the frame.

The skylight dimensions are 16” square. I think I might have to source a complete internal fly screen/ frame. I’m probably best looking at done deal second hand spares etc. Any suggestions?

Maybe I could try something like these plastic hinges if I can figure out where to get them.

Well they appear to be on leisure shop direct. Try them. Or call Donaghey’s. I’m not familiar with your setup so can’t offer anything further. Good luck with it

as a temporary measure I drilled a couple of elongated holes in mine and hinged it with a couple of cable ties,it still works well enough.

Well I am certainly in to makeshift territory so I’ll have to give something a go.
