The MOT EXEMPT option on 40 year old and older vehicles that GB had is apparently now official in NI from Monday past.

Some post offices were doing it even though it wasn't passed here as we don't have a GVT, but now all should be doing it.

On the exemption form that the post office has, it is category 'R' that you need.

Someone mentioned that this is already in place in ROI, and if this is the case, our camper will be MOT exempt from next year.

I think the insurance companies still have the right to request an engineers report, but this would probably be a once-off if you were to buy a 40-year-old vehicle and insure it for the first time.

I never came across that engineer report until I tried to insure with Dolmen with one of our first motorhomes. That was when Motorhomes didn't need tested in ROI.

Our MOT satisfied them.

So I don't think there is anything like that in NI, fingers crossed.

Interesting

Dolmen & Stuarts both asked us for an engineers report, maybe the other insurance companies aren't as fussy. I haven't got to them yet.

If they made it 10 years that might help cut back in the waiting time!

As far as i'm aware there's a public consultation taking place at the moment on this subject by the department for infrastructure, it runs from June until 30th August, Are you sure if 40 year old vehicles are exempt just yet.

I am sure about nothing, other than I was able to TAX a non MOT'd 1979 vehicle ;) - at the post office they handed me the exemption forms. Good enough for me.

You couldn't make that sh*t up!!

A public consultation on a law thats already passed in GB, ack sure bring it to NI and we'll have a yarn about it for a couple of months, some dudes will make thousands from it and in the end it will be the same law as GB.

Next thing we know, same sex couples who love each other will be able to get married!! I know! far fetched (bangs head of wall emoji needed)

Ya, that's what I heard too but I couldn't find any official statement to confirm it!
The rolling exemption makes more sense too

I suppose someone needs to discuss it, we don’t have a government to argue about why horse and carts are the way forward
