Hi all, just thought I would let you all see the new tax rules for new motorhomes!

Its going to be implemented from the 1st of September. Any new motorhome registered will cost £2135 instead of £265 for its VED. Its an increase of 705%.
For years motorhomes have got away with changes to VED by not putting emissions on the COC. Now they have to.
So now:
1st year - £2135
2nd year - £465

In total over 6 years it will cost £4460 instead of normally costing £1590 so it will leave an increase of £2870.

So I think current 2019 stock will become quite sought after!

Where do The Caravan and Motorhome Club, The NCC, and the other bodies representing the builders, suppliers and end users stand on the issue.
Did they lobby on the point raised by Ally.
There is a body of research which shows that holidaying in a motorhome has a significantly lower carbon footprint and is far more eco friendly than flying and staying in hotels.

Depends on the plated weight. If it is 3500kg or less then £265 per annum. If 3501kg + then £165 per annum

Does that mean you pay £100 more for the lighter van?

Doesn’t appear any logic but that’s how it is. The heavier vans are classed as Private HGV

Autotrail have a video on Facebook of MP Melanie Onn talking off the potential difficulties this tax will cause. I have asked her to share it to her YouTube channel so that I can share it here

This all seems to apply to 3500kg and below. There appears to be no change to classification TC10 Private Heavy Goods Vehicles for 3501kg+ which stay at £165 per year.

Interestingly there is no reference to Fait Ducato in the list of cars in the VCA link, so do they still consider it a commercial.

The tax rate table in the link still shows TC11 Light Goods Vehicle which is the current classification for motorhomes 3500kg and below.

It all seems to hinge on whether or not there is a legal requirement to have a figure for CO2 on the CoC for motorhomes. Vans still appear to continue to be classified TC11. If this is the case then the manufacturers will have to test the finished Motorhome.

Apparently the new Euro 6d engine for 2020 models is £2000 more expensive than the current Euro 6b. If you add that to the extra VED cost then you are looking at well over £4K increase on purchase of a new MH before any ‘normal inflation’ costs as the extra VED for £40k plus will also apply.

The solution for those that can is to have the MH uprated to 3501kg so it is then PHGV (TC10)

Paul is quoting someone else. Hence the post in quotes 👍

Been having a look myself, hard to get information but it seems it is happening going by members of parliament disputing it.

Looks like the decision has been made already for the up to 3500kg MH.

Should we each write to our local MP and protest? If so, suggest we draft a letter we each can send.

It won’t be long before they catch on about the over 3500kg and do something similar.
